@shantd Yes, its "Way Up High" by Helen Jane Long, available on Audio Network. It's a great track for pulling at heart strings. http://www.audionetwork.com/production-music/way-up-high_38613.aspx

@Patchezs thanks for the feedback! Interesting note: Sharkey was inline to debate Kurzweil a few years ago for some google conference but unfortunately Kurzweil pulled out. Would have been a very interesting debate.

Oh and while i love the name suggestion, that might have been a tad too 'copywrite infringementy'.

@krishnanmc3 Hey, thanks for the comment.

"Cam, It's science 'fiction'. Fictitious statements need not be rooted in the so-called laws of science"

The show was in no way critisising Portal for including fictitious elements in the fiction. By definition, that would be ludicrous. The point is that sci-fi, is at its best when based on science fact, and then extrapolated from there. This makes it more believable and therefore compelling. Portal is a wonderful example of how to do this, much better than resorting to "A wizard did it." This episode was about celebrating the wonderful sci-fi of portal, and then asking, "hey, is this actually possible" for the simple reason that it would be interesting, and entertaining to dissect.

"(I say, so-called as they can always be improved upon/changed).

What you imply here to be a negative, is actually perhaps the greatest strength of science. It adapts to new evidence. Science is the amalgamation of countless years of study based on what we can prove. Currently our understanding of the laws of the universe, while not perfect, are pretty damn solid in many regards. While its just an anecdote, i think the recent faster than light nutrions controversy displayed this quite nicely. The detection of the particles apparently travelling faster that light received huge press around the world. However the fact that the results were actually due to an error in the detection equipment was not so widely reported.

"The universe is a huge place (almost infinite). So, if that logic were true, we can say anything is possible. Just because it does not seem plausible to us, does not mean that it cannot occur, it could mean that it just waiting to be discovered or researched upon."

I don't agree with "the universe is huge = anything is possible" as a logical argument against basing our understanding of the univsere on current science. The whole point of science is to try to understand the universe based on what we can prove. While undoubtedly there is a hell of lot we don't know, you can't use that as a blanket way of disproving all of our current knowledge. Yes scientific understanding has changed a hell of a lot over hundreds of years of research, but it's always incremental change. Evolution of ideas, not wholesale change.

Now obviously to pretend that we fully understand the universe would be silly, and downright arrogant. Also no scientist worth his salt should ever say " X will never happen!" in my opinion. Noel was very apt in the video when he said "Im here to be proved wrong, I'm a scientists" We have to base our outlook of the world on something. And i think, basing it what we prove at this point in time, is not a bad place to start.

Anyway, thanks again for the comment, I hope I've managed to explain my thoughts and sorry for the essay. There's a reason I work with video, and not written editorial :P.

@Fowsed Hey, don't worry, we are just cycling original content at the moment. Rest assured, any shows which go down well with the viewers, will definitely be back at some point!

Also, concerning a mass effect episode : We've already produced a science of mass effect video a few months ago. It was a pilot for this show in fact. Take a look and let me know what you think! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN8dCBdPTgc
