Gestalt is a psychological time period that refers to something better as an entire than the sum of its elements. This is not a difficult phenomenon to see in motion -- you will have to mix flour, yeast, and cinnamon together to get a delicious loaf of cinnamon-swirl bread, in any case. The term can be applied to Transformers, which combine into a single enormous robot, usually one that isn't notably delicious. Despite this fact, the official time period remains "combiner" instead, presumably as a result of the people who find themselves answerable for naming are anxious about what would happen if everyone began using obscure psychology terms.
Hey, as long as we're already speaking about combining things, we might as properly go complete-hog into this week's WRUP. That itself is a gestalt, but that does not appear fairly spicy sufficient. Let's all speak about combining video games collectively into a whole larger than the sum of its parts. Yeah, that's the ticket. Soar on past the break for that and what the employees shall be taking part in this weekend, then tell us in the feedback what you'll be getting as much as.
Beau Hindman (@Beau_Hindman): I will be ending up my time with Minions of Mirth and moving on to The Realm On-line. I have just barely started to play, however already the sport may be very charming, and the community is awesome. Supposedly it is one of many oldest around! I will also be placing a lot more time building up my city in Illyriad and making an attempt to hit the following degree in Ministry of Warfare. Then I will continue to make plans for taking every week to use no PCs at all and to reside off solely my telephone (for a future venture).
If I may combine two games, they would be Ryzom and The Chronicles of Spellborn. Not only would or not it's the best-looking sport in all the historical past of the universe, however it could have everything I wanted. Properly, that is, if I might throw in some Wurm Online as well. And uhm... combine within the epicness of Vanguard. Oh yeah, and could I throw in some Mabinogi crafting and its rebirth system? What about...
Brandon Felczer (@bfelczer): This weekend I am going away on vacation to my time share in Palm Springs and going to try and not take my laptop -- Ok, I'm gonna take it but try not to open it. We'll see how that goes. So, WRUP this weekend? LIFE!
If I may mix two sport into one, it will undoubtedly be Star Trek On-line and EVE On-line -- that can be pure and utter madness!
Brendan Drain (@nyphur): It's come time for me to close up the Massively Mob company in EVE On-line and leave Massively Motivated in the hands of its administrators. It's been niggling at me because the EVE fanfest that working a PvE company is not what I need to do or what I am good at, and forcing myself to do it has murdered my enthusiasm for enjoying. I'll be getting back into issues I enjoy more, like PvP and enjoying the market in my very own time.
If I could merge any two video games, it would be EVE Online and Age of Conan -- an odd mixture but one I feel would work. Having played on a PvP server in Age of Conan, I discovered that sneaking around the zones monitoring players down and smashing them to bits was incredibly enjoyable. EVE Online's single-shard construction, open-world territorial battle, a form of policing and sentry turret system for secure areas, and a disposable gear system may all do wonders for AoC.
Eliot Lefebvre Ms. Lady and i might be persevering with to explore Last Fantasy XIV collectively, as she's been absolutely in love with the game now that she's received a machine able to handling it. I've also bought The Sims Medieval to occupy my time, and I'd like to get again into Guild Wars with whatever spare moments are left.
Combining games is a bit of a interest of mine to begin with, and a lot of those games wind up being MMOs. I'd love to see a mash-up between the setting and baroque, unique classes of Remaining Fantasy XI with the ability system, armor system, and distinctly fast-paced breakdown of Guild Wars. Failing that, I would like to mash the setting of Sword 2 into a Star Trek Online-model engine. Combine up Fallen Earth and City of Heroes to offer me a Gamma World MMO!
Jef Reahard: A bit of EVE and AoC here, and i've also returned to EverQuest II for some time (mainly as a result of it still has the most effective participant housing despite being seven years outdated, /sniff).
My unholy hybrid would be Ultima Online plus Star Wars Galaxies, and going into details would take this entire column. In the event you performed either, you understand why. It is onerous not to include EVE in there too, but I think CCP will eventually turn it into the ultimate sandbox, so there'd really be no reason to combine it with something at that time.
Jeremy Stratton (@Jeremy_Stratton): I am persevering with my quest to obtain and upgrade a vahtos accessory-set for my Priest/Rogue in Runes of Magic. Though every accessory has a really totally different degree-requirement and none of the items goes near the present degree-cap, they're nonetheless really useful for squishies (especially a pew-pewing Priest). I did not should think for a second about which two games I'd combine. I might love to see all the many fun features of Runes of Magic injected into the giant and lovely world of Vanguard: Saga of Heroes.
Justin Olivetti (@Sypster): As a lot as possible, I'll be enjoying Lord of the Rings On-line to eek out all of that extra bonus XP for the anniversary weekend celebration. So no RIFT till Monday, alas!
Mixture-wise, it'd be superior to see RIFT and Metropolis of Heroes mixed. The soul system and dynamic events of RIFT would lend themselves effectively to a superhero setting, and CoH has at all times had some of the coolest combat and powers of any comic e book sport.
Karen Bryan (@JayeRnH): It's Easter weekend plus the tail finish of faculty vacation, so my playtime's restricted. I am going to try to sneak in a bit Pirates of the Burning Sea, though!
As for the bonus question, that is simple. offtopic hut would prefer to see Minecraft mixed with RIFT. I want to see a airplane of Minecraft with 16-bit invasions and armies of creeers and zombies working amok all over Telara.
MJ Guthrie: This weekend will see me cooking up a medley stew -- a sprint Lord of the Rings Online, a number of shakes of STO, a heaping scoop of EverQuest II, and then a sprig of Aion for spice. I feel that can fill me up pretty nicely!
Hmmm, nicely the first one could be straightforward to pick -- pre-CU Star Wars Galaxies! The emotes, the customization, the housing, the social courses, the crafting, the... I might go on and on. I might mix it with... um... Ok, the second selection is more durable for me. I'd very effectively select The Sims. I really like to construct; to have the ability to design and construct my own place would keep me entertained endlessly. Can I add in just a few The Matrix On-line features as well? Actually, do not get me began because I'd snag features from so many video games to make my good game! Then I could by no means enterprise into RL again...
Patrick Mackey (@mackeypb): Champions On-line is doing a free Serpent Lantern weekend, so any player can play it. I'm positively going to be operating a few of it with associates. One of my associates is coming back from the military on go away, so I'll also be doing stuff with him this weekend. We'll probably be enjoying Hisoutensoku and Artemis. I intend to add among the exploits to my YouTube channel, so if you are interested, test some of that out.
If I could mix two video games into one, it could be EVE and Armored Core. Particularly, I would like a cutthroat economic player-focused mecha action recreation in a submit-apocalyptic world, the place gamers pilot robots as an alternative of ships and fight is blinding fast and talent-based mostly.
In the beginning of every weekend, we catch up with the Massively staff members and ask them, "What are you taking part in this week?" (In any other case often known as: WRUP!) Be part of us to see what we're up to in and out of game -- and catch us within the feedback to tell us what you're taking part in, too!
