@TwinSnakes1989 The response to these news is relatively "mild" compared to EA, because EA has been fucking things up constantly for the past 8 years, whereas RockStar was not.

If RockStar however decides to continue along that road, they'll soon fall into the same category as EA, UbiSoft and Activision and be treated similarly and it's hard to recover from that image.

@HowlPendragon It's an operating system, to be installed on any hardware you desire / already have or may be preinstalled on vendor PCs (like Win7 / Win8 currently) at some time.

Should you already own a beefy gaming PC and I understand SteamOS correctly, you can use a "cheap" hardware with SteamOS installed as a streaming box that connects to your TV by cable and your gaming PC over the network - Basically what "OnLive" is doing, but all in your home, where the SteamBox does the input management, video and sound output and such and the gaming PC does the hard processing and rendering work.

Or optionally you install SteamOS on the gaming PC to have it on the same hardware.

I don't think this will be holding back anything, OpenGL, OpenAL, OpenCL all run fine on Linux, it's just up to the developers to use them instead of DirectX, which only runs on Windows.
I see it more as a transition phase and from the little we know about it yet I'm already linking where it's headed. (plus, I trust Valve)

While we're at it, in another file from the PS3 version there's indication of the PC version having a online requirement (RockStar SocialClub most likely) for loading / saving of games.

Quote : Player is asked to be signed in on the PC when loading or saving games, this causes issues on PC as there is nothing to sign into yet

That's just speculation though, because it's "only" a changelog excerpt.

I don't blame RockStar much because these are "trendy" things to do, I just hope that the microtransaction stuff is for cosmetics only and not for buying advantages and that it's playable offline without RockStar SocialClub and online requirement.
As long as that nonsense is entirely optional, I'm "ok" with it. (well, not really)

Not that much longer until release.
Looking forward to some pure braindead action, remade in todays graphics.

I hope they kept the difficulty of the original, it was pretty awesome too.

A remake of Soldier of Fortune would be equally awesome. (screw the rating boards)

Prediction : These "mega towers" are going to look extremely silly in that tiny backyard sized area you're allowed to build them in.

It doesn't surprise me in the slightest though that they're milking their few brainwashed customers instead of listening to feedback and making the game actually playable.

I can't think of any reasonable thing why anyone would pay money for this - The second the servers are shut down for whatever spooky reason EA comes up with, the game is useless and all money spent was for nothing.

These delusional EA "news" never get old, please keep them coming.

Quick, say something stupid or parrott an analysts hallucination, investors and shareholders need to be impressed.

I've got some ideas too, let's throw them in here and check back in a few months how many of them have become reality :

- time limited pay per camera view during sports events
- per hour subscription service for less / different commercials
- countless minitransaction services
- audience targeted product placements, powered by Kinect spycam
- pay per person in the room movie rental / streaming
- ...

Not to forget the added bloat of social media integration for which you require a Gold Membership subscription and other nonsense "features".

I still can't imagine sane people buying that "console" because of not even a handful of time limited "exclusive" titles and even less permanent exclusive titles.

@tiralif Welcome to the world of MMOs, subscription based games, microtransactions and "gaming as a service" a.k.a. (always) online DRM.

If you're not comfortable with the thought of losing everything you paid for just because the developer / publisher feels like it, then you better not buy into that in the first place, because every single one of those "online only services" will disappear at some point and with it all the money you spent on it goes up in smoke in an instant with no value remaining to you. (like being able to continue to use it offline)

Some publishers (not only, but especially EA, UbiSoft and Activision) even made this planned obsolescense business model their favored form of income.
Release game X with forced online DRM, let it run for 2 years, shut down servers and release X.1, then do the same with X.2, then X.3 and so on.

@VarietyMage That pretty much sums it all up, very well done, there's nothing to add.

I've watched parts of some gameplay videos, next up will be watching and participating in a full playthrough of one of my subscribed favourite Twitch streamers and having some fun, then I'll continue waiting for the PC version.

By the time the PC version is released I'll most likely have forgotten everything about the "story" anyways and GTA is more about just screwing around (like Saints Row) anyways, so no harm done in "spoiling" it for me myself.

So far all I've seen of the "story" didn't impress me much anyways.
Nice animations and voice acting, sure, but the constant swearing gets boring real quick, so I'm looking more forward to the "Sandbox" aspects.
