Probably get panned for this comment but here goes...im not buying mw3, or any other inevitable subsequent call of duty game, simply because its becoming a recycled cash cow due to kottick and his greedy ways. I remember seeing an interview with him a while back and iv never seen such an arrogant, self assured, egotistic idiot. This is a man who took guitar hero to a level where he was selling 10 dollar dlc packs like metallica and van halen as full price stand-alone titles. Everyone is talking about the trailer; its epic, its mind blowing! iv never seen a cityscape ravaged with battle...its all been done! And in their own games! I distinctly recall the mw2 trailer with scenes of dc burning. Yawn, another boat chase, another on-rails shooting sequence. And with the departure of most of the infinity ward team due to 'conflicts of interest' its never going to be brought back to the glory days where infinity ward shaped the shooter genre with what back then was truly groundbreaking gameplay and features. But unsurprisingly, they are wanting to milk this cash cow to the sour dregs and expect us to swallow it, and the sad part is that we will swallow it and ask for more.
i think what holds the playstation 3 back is not so much graphics capability but its whopping price tag. working in HMV i practically have to beg people to buy them so we can shift them out of our stockroom. we have a whole campaign dedicated to sellng the playstation 3 because its sales performance is so poor. fair enough it has a blu ray drive etc but no one is wanting to pay the exuberant prices for the blu ray disks and for technology they will probably never use. a standard dvd title that costs £8 is being sold for £22 in blu ray format. if that's not off putting then i don't know what is. and the fact that Sony still manufactures playstation 2 consoles and games is evidence that they are grasping at straws to secure revenue for their games entertainment division. the main draw of gaming now comes down to online competitive play and we all have to admit that microsoft excels in this department due to their high effectiveness in providing servers because they have been doing so for years. we all know how the playstation 2 online system ended up; a total failure. sure microsoft charge for use of their online service but why not? you would do the same, its called business. they are practically giving it away anyway since a years subcription can be secured for just under £40. thats literally pennies a day and compared to WoW subscription fees, an absolute bargain. Sony themselves know how successfull and lucrative microsoft ideas are, which is why they unveiled the trophy system, emulating microsofts achievement system. as for being unreliable, the 360 console may be prone to break down but when microsoft are willing to pick up, repair, and deliver your broken console in the space of a week (4 days in my personal experience) for a whole 2 years after the store of purchase warranty has expired, can we really hold that against them?
to everyone sayin how weak the article was, i don't think it was meant to be an extensive study of the series. judging by the language and context, it was meant to be a quick and humerous overlook of the development of the series. i enjoyed the article simply for being fresh and original, and to be honest, can you really see what i suspect is a large percentage of gamespot subscribers, reading a five page in-depth article when half of them can't even spell properly or think that typing 'AWESOME' or 'roflcopter' is a witty and clever response to an article? i rest my case.
