Movie Review- Captain Marvel

I've been a fan of the Captain Marvel comics over the past few years now and I do enjoy reading them based around Carol Danvers and her team in various issues and volumes, including Civil War II as well, which was released back in 2016 which I really did enjoy reading and could likely be a movie sequel to Civil War if it ever happens in the future. I was pretty excited about the news on a Captain Marvel film a while back, especially after the end credits to Avengers: Infinity Wars knowing that Captain Marvel would be the next film from the Marvel franchise and possibly an origin story as well which later connect to the other Marvel films and where it fits in the timeline in that universe.

Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special super powers to end the war with the evil Skrulls. I did like the idea of having an origin story around her feels like we've seen this all done before where you wonder how they got the super powers and knowing how to control it and then finding it's something deep inside you all along that helps you overcome something. This is what had me thinking through most of the film and kind of wished they made her story a little better overall it still had a good story plot element around her and Brie Larson did do a great job on playing the real being both serious and heroic at the same time. I would say that Samuel L. Jackson is more funny this time round as Nick Fury and knowing his backstory as well is interesting and funny where he is just a chilled guy and just wants to help her.

You've got other good actors as well, including Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lashan Lynch, Gemma Chan and of course Stan Lee making another cameo once again this was before he died back in November 2018 and most of the filming was done before all of that happened. With the story being set in the 90's I did like the 90's nostalgia and easter eggs that were in the background, including a few video game references and businesses as well; the fight sequences are well detailed and impressive same goes with the CGI effects especially if you were planning on watching this in 3D. If I'm honest, I wouldn't say that it's not the best Marvel out of the bunch might not be as perfect as Guardians of the Galaxy or Doctor Strange for that matter Captain Marvel still does a great job keeping the film fresh however, if there was going to be a sequel or anything, I would like see more on Carol Danvers going around various planets and galaxies more because the idea would work and if you've read the comics like I have there is more detail added in.

For a 124 minute film it still offers some great moments and a decent origin story might not be as perfect based on Captain Marvel it's a start and having Brie Larson was the right choice for casting at the end of the film I did had mixed-thoughts on Captain Marvel I'm sure that she'll play an important role in the next Avengers film and in future Marvel films as well.

4/5(Four Star Film Rating)
