Its an anarchy and thus we can individually use what ever we want. Its not an exact rule that we must use GS or GR so all the arguments about what we should use are moot.

BreakingPoint8

We use nothing, I personally will no longer accept Game Spot as a foundation for the system wars hype thread. I have defended GS so many times on this issue in the past, I dismissed all allegations of wrong doing, until this happened. Even if nothing has tainted reviews in the past, we CAN NOT over look what is happening.

I say, we change the hype system to "Who has paid the most for advertisements?" and we place bets off the score and "tone" of future reviews.

Agreed, using Gamespot reviews at this point compromises the "game" of System Wars, as now we'll never be entirely sure how the review has been changed behind the scenes.

I'm with Gamerankings on this one. Gamespot's credbility has been drawn into question, andthat compromises the whole ridiculous meta that is system wars. Gamerankings will at least be more objective by nature of common denominator.

I'd vote for him over a Christian president, if they were exactly the same on all other issues. I don't like religion being dragged into the running of our country.

[QUOTE="beat89"][QUOTE="KittyKat"][QUOTE="eddy5791"]The dude looked like a mamas boy. i swear ever since he took over GS, reviews have sucked for the most part. I'm glad he left, he can go get a job somehwere else.KittyKat
He never took over GS.... :|

He was Eiditor-in-chief. So yeah, he did pretty much take over Gamespot. They were still run by CNET, but Jeff was the man in control of the editorial content.

Editor-in-chief doesn't mean he took over GS.

He controlled all the review and editorial content on the site. Who would be above him (Besides the CNET suits)?

I don't know which is more shocking, the sudden departure of Jeff or the willingness of so many people to go batsh|t crazy over a story that is still 99% speculation.

The word of someone with the screen-name of "gamespot" is absolute gosphel - is it that particular screen name that engenders such unquestioned trust?

Some moderation is deserved here. You should be preparing to leave, preparing to "burn it down," not doing so before any of this has played out and the facts are actually revealed.

lol at all the people with under 10 posts saying they'll be leaving forever. *sniff* What a loss . . .

Uncle_Tbag

Well if you examine the evidence that has surfaced so far, it'sd pretty easy to get a clear picture:

-Penny Arcade (Who are pretty well on with the GS crew) did a comic about Jeef being fired, saying it was true

-Admins are on gag order about Jeff's firing which is fairly suspicious

-GS has been plastered with K&L ads for the past while

-There is still no official statement (While not a big deal, one would think CNET would be quick to quash this if there's no truth to the matter. Hell, they'd be quick to quash it anyway, as it could be a serious blow against their credibility.

-Several anonymous messages from people claiming to be GS staffers have surfaced corroborating the story

Now I know none of those are definitive sources, but if you throw all of them together, it's pretty hard NOT to be suspicious of what's going on here...

Suspicion is fine. People aren't treating it suspiciously though. They're treating it as fact.

- Yes, I know he's been fired.

- Every corporation would be on "gag-order," especially on a Friday evening when no one is in the office.

- GS is plastered with ads EVERY DAY from numerous games; some score well and others don't.

- No official statement on a Friday night an hour or two after the story hits? NOt a surprise at all.

- I know, and I already said that I think it's naieve to take anon posts as fact. Anyone of us could do the exact same thing, claiming to be official staffers.

Believing Jeff got fired over one review is a pretty big claim and deserves some pretty big backing which hasn't shown up yet.

I know it's stupid to expect moderation from OT anyway, this is pretty much freak-town, no offense to anyone in particular.

Oh yes, I agree with you on most of that. However, for something such as this, it's rather unlikely that you'll ever get "official" proof due to corporate policies and such. Even if he didn't get fired for his one review, the simple fact that reviewing a sponsors game with the wrong "tone" (Been mentioned officially several times as a reason for the termination) can get you fired is alarming.

I doubt this entire story is true, but things don't explode like this without at least a bit of truth in them.

You guys are on the wrong side of this. We want Jeff OUT, so that no more games can get Gertsed (flopped)Acemaster27
It's not so much who got fired, as it is WHY he was fired. Being fired for scoring an advertisers game too low is blatant corruption in the system, and throws the entire site into question.

And of course it's never good to see someone lose their job over crap like this.

P.S. SUPPORT JEFF BY GIFING HIM! WE SHALL OVARTAKETH TEH FURUMZ! (WIF JEFF GIFS!)

Wow, I never really agreed with Jeff, but I always respected his opinion. It just sucks to see him go like this. My respect for Gamespot and CNET just droppe considerably.

P.S. THIS THREAD IS MADE OF EPIC WIN!
