It would be such a win to see the return of old school, non linear level based level design. That's why I loved old school games so much and I feel like few to no games have provided that sort of level design. Even games like Painkiller and Serious Sam 3 have fairly linear paths.

I hope the Gamespot staff take notice of the comments for this game. Clearly for most people, this is not an issue about the score, it's about the review process altogether and the disconnect between a good game with a reviewer who has a bad opinion of the game yet unable to actually empirically backup her claims with anything more than "I preferred the other one."

I came to Gamespot from IGN because I felt everything there was an editorial, everything was opinions and personalities and I wanted more straight forward, fact driven reviews. I'm fine with dissenting opinions, but they need to be backed up with facts. You shouldn't be justifying your opinion, you should be presenting a more objective overview of the game because after all, your reviews shouldn't be about you, they should be their to serve your audience.

Or at least, perhaps ironically, that's my opinion.

@RoGar-MFL @Penguinlord1 "More of the same but not quite as good" is fine if it's still better than the competition.

@rclark04 @bahamutdragons On that, I agree completely.

@TheGreatPhoenix My issue is that if this wasn't a Batkam: Arkham branded game, it would get a ton more praise. Reading the review, I felt like the expectations hurt the reviewer more than the game itself, but then she's not reviewing the game, she's reviewing her expectations of what she wanted it to be. If the same game with a different coat of paint would bring an entirely different and more positive review, and I am convinced it would, then this review is being unfair.

@rclark04 Or, if you want a system to change, then explain why you believe the system doesn't work right. Just like politics, you don't just change countries when you don't like a law, you try to push for change.

@RoGar-MFL But there's no indication that it's that much weaker than Arkham City, let alone other games in the same genre. If this wasn't a sequel, then judging from the review, it would probably be rated an 8.

I'm not a fan of this review. There's absolutely no indication that the game is inferior to the previous game, but there's also no indication that it's inferior to other games in the same genre. I'll take any criticism to a game, that's the reviewer's job, but when you fail to properly criticize and still give it a (comparatively) weak mark, then you're failing to doing your job properly.

@DaneGamer While I agree, I get the feeling Inafune was talking about the old school Mario, back when they were groundbreaking. Although to be fair, Mario Galaxy reinvented the genre in an impressive way.
