@mersad: I keep bringing up reference to NeoGeo who had multiple games at 40MB or so and most people laughing saying that they'll never hit 330MB and found such a size absurd for a video game in the early 90's. :) Now we're arguing about 32GB being more than enough. This is a trend in tech and I recall back to a day when 640kB was seen as more than you'd ever need. :)

Times may change but the problems never seem to.

@asnakeneverdies: Because they're thinking of the future. :) Even NeoGeo found a way beyond 330MB because as the console was out longer, there was a need for it. Nowadays, all our Switch games are well beyond this and probably most of it is due to higher res, colors, and well, 64-bit double-word alignment probably.....

@dragonsama: Yes, but the problem in your argument is that when you have 50GB on a physical disc, you have less need for compression of data. If you're not in danger of hitting that 50GB cap, then why compress anything? It reminds me of old NeoGeo games. They could've compressed the data more to get more content on the carts but having a higher MB count on the cart became a selling point (to those few who bought one -- myself included -- back when hitting the theoretical 330MB limit was seen as impossible -- which they increased eventually)....

It's a portable device. Did you want to see another Sony-like media format to have a physical media drive?

As far as offshoot of SD cards, I think the method they're using is probably a cheaper way than SD cards which is why they're using it. I bet someone will come up with a micro SD adapter at some point like they did with the Vita so you can use it in the cartridge port.

@lorddaggeroff: Yes and old x86 machines could only access 1MB of memory too. :) Then someone figured out switching and paging so they could access more memory. Someone will figure out a solution in the future that gets beyond this limit.

@asnakeneverdies: Quite certain. It's the only game I bought on physical media. The rest I bought on digital because I could keep them all on my micro SD card so I could switch between them without having to get up or to carry cards along.

@shanesays5: I haven't played Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in a long time. And the main reason is that whenever I play online, once you're in 8th place, you rarely have the option to get out of the cellar. After a while, it just gets boring.

Although, the exclusion of Rocket League from this list is inexcusable. :) That game is one of the few ports that looks just like it does on every other platform and runs at 60fps. Sure it doesn't run at 1080p yet (if they can get it up that high), but it runs smooth and is a lot of fun when playing online.

The only game I ever bought on physical media was Zelda and I regret not getting that digitally. I switched to download versions only for one main reason: I can have every game I own on a large micro SD card and switch between them at will. Sure, I can't sell them but by the time comes when I'm done with the system, the games will probably sell for about $4 anyway.
