I always play single player campaign. Make sure online only games are marketed to show that they are only online. I wont be buying any. Sure, it is the lazy way out to make QTE or multiplayer only games, but no discount to the customer for half of a game. Screw those greedy and lazy studios. When the in-crowd moves on to the next new thing, the online game will be worthless with no dedicated servers and no crowd to play. Seen that before and it is a rip off.
