Seeing a lot of accameron posts lately. Guessing he came back from a mod-sponsored 10-day vacation or something because the lack of fanboyism around here was Gatorade-in-Death-Valley levels of refreshing for a while.

Didn't read your post, but COD4 begs to differ.

I think that I mentioned that there are a FEW games that have equal multi-plats, COD4 being one of them. Learn to read before you talk junk. Do you Cows think that it insults me when you reply to my threads with "I didn't read the post, but......"

lol, I stopped reading after you said the current gen only has a few years left.

Rinaldus91

Haha, same, what do we have, another 4 or 5 years?

LOL. It's almost 2008. We have until 2011 at MOST. More likely November 2010.

Are you high? PS2 released in 2001 and didn't die till 6 years later. So I'm guessing late 2012 is when we'll be done with the PS3. Yeah, we got awhile.

Well, if MS drops the XBOX 720 in 2010 or 2011, then Sony will be stupid to not follow suit shortly after unlike they did this time. As it is turning out, having a year head start is BRUTAL to the competition. Regardless of how this generation turns out, Sony cannot allow its main competitor to have a 1 year head start ever again. Sony is learning a lot of lessons this generation LOL

why is it that when it comes to the PS3 doing well, all you ever see is excuses... In reference to PS3 selling well lately "Its because of the holidays and price cut, thats all"in reference to the excellent PS3 commercials "WOW sony must be desperate thats why so many commercials lately" im anxious to see what the excuse is when the PS3 actually sells because of good games.. It will go something like "The PS3 is only selling good because it has good games, thats the only reason" I mean seriously. The PS3 is doing very very well now in sales, quit using the whole price drop/holiday excuses because lets face it, when its all said and done, holidays or no holidays, the PS3 selling really well, itmeans that people want it and know its a great machine with great games on the horizon.

King_of_Sorrow

But all that is true, just like 360 sales are rising because of the holiday season. Why you don't want to hear the truth?

Is it not true that they must "want" a PS3 to purchase one? Price drop doesn't always means more purchases.

history has shown that generally a sales surge follows a price drop, and generally lasts for a few weeks. However, now being the holidays, this trend will last until January for all consoles.

No, it is the PS3 that sucks. How many MAJOR game developers have to complain PUBLICLY about the PS3 being difficult to program on for you to realize this?

Actually, (and I am being honest here), the only reason that the PS3 is seeing any sort of increase in sales lately is due to the holidays and price cuts. I don't think that Sony is desperate soley because they advertise, because they are hoping to see some return on their ad investment, and since the PS3 is in such bad shape lately, it is the only way to get the word out about a decent new game to the mainstream. And the PS3 has not yet sold much due to "good games," sorry to burst your bubble. It is only logical that it would sell better than usual due to the holidays and a price drop. I guarantee you that 360 sales are the exact same thing, except the 360 has the added bonus of having a lot of great games NOW.

You could say the same for Shooters;

  • Big, masculine guys blowing stuff up
  • Point and shoot, kill and destroy
  • Save humanity from an alien threat, or WWII
  • Often the same game, hidden under a shiny coat of glossy graphics
  • Multiplayer
  • Short as HELL Single Player

However, there are games in both genres that break the mold; when will the "Shooter" fad end, it's killing my Single Player gaming experience, Dammit!

See what I did there? :D

Saturos3091

At least most shooters have stellar multi-player (at least on the 360) these days. You can also play them with other people, even talk to them as you fight and plan out together. Thus, there is a competitive element involving real people that most other genres fail to possess. Also, shooters still evolve from time to time. With JRPGs, nothing really changes except the graphics of the cut scenes. JRPGs are for nerds living in a windowless closet.

And shooters are for 6 year olds who can't comprehend a dynamic story. See, generalizing is fun!

What shooter has stellar multiplayer on 360? The only one I really haven't tried is CoD4 (heard it's pretty good actually); the others (Halo 3, PDZ, F.E.A.R., etc.) were horrible. Plus, I don't see how talking to people makes them better, unless you really care about your leaderboard rank or something (really, why do people play games if it's not for fun?). MMO's are the same way. They must be the ultimate gaming experience for you since you can talk to people and fight and plan out strategies for taking on the next large boss.

Rainbow SixL Vegas Online.

Also, MMOs are great. At least they don't totally suck, like JRPGs.

Evolve? When? If I was some hater, I'd say they're the same with BETTER graphics, if anything. If you're going to criticize JRPGs, I'll criticize Shooters, as I damn well please. How has Multiplayer helped gaming? Look at all the nerds playing these Shooter games online 24/7, speaking their damn internet lingo and saying, "I pwned you! Haha, in a video game too no less!" Give me a break. I like Shooters, but your arguments are baseless and just spell hate. There are games that break this mold, but you're too blind to see it. I switched the argument, and anyone can do the same.

Dude, it's 100 times more fun to PWN noobs online (and talk trash) than it is to "level up" by yourself. You can't be serious here.

Hmm... lets see.

1. Oblivion: they got that one a year after the 360.

2. Rockband: also on 360.

3. COD4: also on 360.

4. Assassins Creed: also on 360.

5. Rainbow Six: Vegas: they got that one over 6 months after the 360.

6. Ninja Gaiden: It wasnt on the 360... oh yea, it was on the original xbox, all they did was polish the graphics and add a few new bells and whisles.

When I say good games, I mean 9.0 and up.

DlMEBAG

Because Sony screwed up and made the PS3 difficult to program for even the top game developers in the world, all in the hopes of pusing the PS3 as a blu-ray player. Unnecessary complexity, unnecessary expense- no wonder devs are leaving it in droves. Not to mention the fact that the PS3 game attach rate is horrendous, probably the worst of any major console that has ever been released (after 1 year on the market).

Serious question: If you were a dev, would you go through all the time and expense of making a game on the PS3, or go with the more profitable and easy to program 360? Pretty easy answer, IMO.

Well the expenses arent the problem, publishers fund that, but I wouldnt take the ordeal to program on the ps3, and the 360 is a bigger market, so anyone would make it for 360.

And thus the cycle keeps going on, and on, and on. Sony royally screwed up this generation. Let's hope they get it right next time (ps4)
