I'm slightly bummed out by the fact that they're considering changing the ending, as recently, I discovered a theory by a youtuber who posted his ideas on how the current ending is actually a dream sequence during which Shepard gets indoctrinated, and that they "real" ending is going to come via DLC. I guess this completely disproves his theory, as it essentially is BioWare admitting that the current ending is in fact, the definite, real ending. Here's the link if anyone is interested: << LINK REMOVED >>
The "games are art" argument is not a get out of jail free card for developers. There is a distinct difference between a painting by Pablo Picasso and Mass Effect 3, or any other video game for that matter, because Picasso creates one painting and displays that painting. It is an expression of his own artistic creativity. Perhaps, someone who likes the painting will buy it because he admires it. Mass Effect 3 was never created with the intention of being an outlet for Bioware's creativity, it was created with the intention of entertaining it's customers and generating sales. Thus, for it's designers to refer to it as a work of art and defend their position is rather ironic, considering the fact that it was designed to be sold and consumed.
@daveasaraus Voice talent doesn't get paid as much as you'd think they do. I doubt that any one of them broke a five-figure salary for the roles they played. One of the prerequisites for being a voice actor is that you have to have the ability to voice numerous characters, meaning that each of the voice actors in TOR most likely voiced multiple NPCs.
@true_hurdler Because a great deal of the gaming community has lost faith in the CoD franchise, while the Battlefield titles have been consistently well designed and well liked? BF is by no means an underdog, and in reality, people will have a hard time comparing the two games because they're totally different. The franchise was launched in 2004, compared to the original CoD launch in '03 - not much of a time difference. At the time, they were also completely different games, as they are today. You will never have a 32v32 CoD match, and you'll rarely get a 40-3 KD in BF.
