Star Trader: Frontiers (indie title that is surprisingly deep in what you can do)

Rimworld. Another indie that was a wild ride.

TES: Skyrim

Final Fantasy IV...ancient but at the time I loved it.

Ultima 1-3

Baulders Gate II, except...I semi-recently picked up another (revised version) and ya...it's not aged well. Few things do mind you.

and probably Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.

I only came across this title last month and have to say it's suddenly one of my all time favorites.

And yet I almost completely missed it...in fact seems like a lot of people really like is (based on App Store and Steam) but far more (like I had) have missed out.

Any chance you might consider giving it a review now?...it's been updated 187-times and currently on v.3.09

[QUOTE="KamuiFei"]I doubt it is about production costs, Sony just wants to move forward. Besides, getting a PS2 isn't hard, if you're still into your PS2 games. I have a 60g and can play all my PS2 and PS1 games on it without a problem, but I bought a PS3 for PS3 games. BC was merely a bonus, one which I rarely use. Last Ps2 game I played was FFXII, about 4 or 5 months ago. cbalas

A point that every new and old owner should understand!!!!

Keep in mind without BC support no one would have played GoW2 on the PS3.

And now with the rumor of them killing the 80gig model this takes on more importance...seems BC is getting dropped from Sony.

[QUOTE="Yuck_Too"]They pulled all BC from the 40gig for no other reason then to stop people fromplaying PS2 games on it.emitsu97

Are you sure that had nothing to do with minimizing unit production cost?

Sony said it themselves that removing the EE chip saved about $50 but that removing software BC from the 40gig had no impact on cost but was only done to encourage PS3 game purchases.

[QUOTE="carljohnson3456"]I dont think he really meant even 0% software emulation. I think he meant like, no more 100% hardware BC in any PS product. Otherwise, we'd be hearing about it being stripped from the 80 GB.carljohnson3456

Or he's preping us for the news they are pulling software BC from the 80gig model. That's my bet.

I doubt it man, they've already cut the production costs down to $400. I cant imagine why they would pull software emulation from the 80 GB.

They pulled all BC from the 40gig for no other reason then to stop people fromplaying PS2 games on it.

I could very easily see them doing the same thing for the 80gig and or the next models that follow it.

[QUOTE="Yuck_Too"]

Guess that fairly much settles that.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Hirai said, "We want to promote games only available for PlayStation 3. This stays very much on-message with statements made late last year by Sony Computer Entertainment (UK) managing director Ray Maguire "When we launched, we said we would focus on forward production than backwards-compatibility, but there was more of a need for backwards-compatibility six months ago. So, from here on in, there are no plans for backwards-compatibility in PlayStation products."

I still don't get why thay don't just stick with the software BC. It doesn't cost them anything...and if it's that big a deal stop releasing updates but don't scrap the thing all together.

svenskamerikan

There has never been a software only BC solution - even the 80gb uses internal hardware that costs money. In addition people buying $20 ps2 games vs. $60 ps3 games......which do you think Sony prefers?

Ummm...that's totally incorrect. 80g is all software BC.

As for ditching future support, my guess is they mean it in regards to future PS3's (aka like the 20g) and the PS4...Problem like others have said. Take GoW2, for the PS2 shipped after the PS3 launched. How PO'd would people have been if there was no BC for that?
