problem about manually controlling the fan to make it spin at a higher speed in order to cool the 4870 will only ensure that the fan life span shorten in other words, it not only will make more noise but the fan will die out sooner, so if you are looking for "futureproof" go with the GTX 260 it runs the GPU like 20-30 degrees cooler compared to the 4870 and the fan isnt turned up at a very high speed.

If you have never built a pc before then you and I at least have that in common. I have heard that it is really easy to build one and to me it is a lot like a jigsaw puzzle and I have heard that it is difficult to mess it up just aas long as you know the basic.

Like what kind of pc do you want amd or intel what kind of gpu and so on and so on like that.

Now with me I have replaced a GPU and a HDD C/DVD rom PSU sound card and just about everthing else except for a cpu and mobo and heat sink fan.

see thats interesting becuase before i build my PC, it thot it was like jigsaw puzzle aswell, boy i was wrong it was harder than expected, sometimes the pieces might not fit in well and you might have to force them in abit. now see the point is that the hardest part in the PC build is the Mobo, and the CPU cooler.

Especially with on of the Intel Stock Coolers (assuming you are getting INtel) which is just plan annoying but if you have to save some money then i would say this is one of the most annoying parts

Now the Mobo, it was very troublesome to put it into the case, it was lucky i build the PC with a friend where he had to force (well not with alot of force but just abit) the mobo to stay in position of the holes and i had to screw the screws in simultaneously. It was hard to match the holes with the I/O Panels and i was building it with a Cooler master Stacker 832

Mounting the HDD might be abit annoying as you have to aline it with the holes of the tray.

other than that should be a breeze

it doesnt matter if you are going for the same specs, but different manufacture have different benefits like warranty, game bundles, extra stuff (XFX do not disturb sign) cables, etc, they also have different overclocking specs so it really does matters if you want an overclock graphics card and that you choose the the specs you like best

It also depends on your hardware.jhunte99

agree. if you have like a mid range video card.. like the 9600gt, or the 3850 ideally you would like to have that at 1680x1050, but if you have more of the powerful cards like the 8800GTS/GTX or 9800GX2, 3780X2 (list goes on and on) you can actually consider it at 2560x1900 but that might be abit high so typically ppl put it at the 1900x1200 to acheive both good fps and image quality

[QUOTE="S34L"]The difference in Alienware and building your own is only about 200 bucks. With a warranty and customer support it definantley makes up for the 200. Its just a hassle building your own. So many things can go wrong and its not that cheap. 2300 with moniter versus, what, 2100?mattyomo99

A company Alienware etc etc.. don't specify SPECIFICLY the specifications of each componetns being used if you take a the GC for example Alienware DOESNT EVEN TELL YOU wut specification shader clock/core clock/ mem clock of the gc which might be unknown t the user WHEN buying (off course you can check the specifications using specific softwares but thats only after you have bought the machine...)

ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

caseystryker

if you are thinking of getting the 2x 3870 crossfired why not just go with a Gigabyte board? they are much more stable using all solid capacitors from japan and apparently their "DES" is better than Asus "EPU"
