@bdrtfm: Precisely, they make the best software in the industry, I'm sure their shareholders would love for that software to be available to a huge userbase rather than a very limited userbase their systems usually see.
@Jinzo_111887: They didn't profit though, they lost money for a record number of quarters straight for them. Why do you think there has been so much Nintendo doom and gloom? That's not even considering all of the R&D and marketing costs tied to the system. 3DS did good but software and hardware for it were way down gen over gen, so it didn't really negate the awful Wii U finances like DS did for Gamecube.
I'm just saying that it's not outside the realm of feasibility for shareholders to want to look in a different direction if Switch underperforms, especially since all of their eggs are in one expensive basket now.
@jr_hal: Nintendo Shareholders like money, all Nintendo has done lately is bleed them. People shouldn't rest on the "Nintendo could lose money for x years because of savings" thing, shareholders don't care how long they could lose money until the company goes under, they care about making money each year. Not inconceivable that if switch underperforms Nintendo could be looking at a very different future, particularly when you have a company like Microsoft with lots of money and an eye on the golden goose.
