Retro Games Retcon Part 3: Sega Genesis and GBA

Trying to create a list of games for the Sega Genesis is no easy task. First off, I never owned one as a kid. I had a friend who owned one, but when I went to his place, we'd always play Sonic the Hedgehog. So that's on the list. I think Nintendo was the best route for me to have taken, because when I peruse all the "best of Genesis" lists, I start to notice the same thing. Where Nintendo was colourful and weird, Sega aligned itself as the more realistic, mature system. Reminds me of Microsoft today. That's not to say Sega didn't have games I'm excited to sink my teeth into. But the list is quite a bit smaller than that of the SNES. Suggestions are most definitely appreciated, especially now, since I don't have nostalgia to fall back on.

Also in this post is the Gameboy Advance. You know, I resisted Nintendo's handheld division for ages. It wasn't until the DS with its one-two punch of Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk that made me finally decide to get one. But aside from borrowing my brother's GBA to play multiplayer Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube, I barely touched the system. So I seem to be in a very similar position with the GBA as I am with the Genesis, with one major exception: GBA is still Nintendo. There are still beloved Nintendo franchises to check out in their GBA form.

With that said, as always, suggest away. I don't want to miss out on any of the best a particular system had to offer. My list is as follows:

Sega Genesis

Ecco the Dolphin
Ecco: The Tides of Time
Gunstar Heroes
Prince of Persia
Pulseman
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Zero Wing (All your base are belong to us? How could I refuse?

Gameboy Advance
