I'm guessing a lot of you also think "it's actually about ethics in videogame journalism" too, right?

Catcalling ranges from annoying to scary, but one thing it always is is unnecessary. Let's face it, the vast majority of the people complaining about feminism (some use the detestable word "********") are men. Same as how most people complaining about minorities taking a stand against what they consider racism are white people. If THEY take issue with the way THEY'RE being treated, perhaps we should stop and listen to what they have to say rather than tell them why they're wrong.

Excellent post. Giving some hope to this forum.

Give her the choice between nobody finding her attractive and men catcalling it's easy. Some people just love to be a victim, she might not like it now but she'll lament the day her looks are gone and she's invisible. Some people, tough life having people being attracted to her all day. If she didn't want attention try not strutting down the street the same way a model walks right in front of men.

I just don't feel sorry for her at all, nobody tried to rape her or do anything besides get her attention. Yeah men will say things to women on the street, welcome to the human race lady.

I don't think this woman will ever look longingly back on the days when she was harassed and frightened on the streets. The behavior is unacceptable despite the fact that no one dragged her in an alley and raped her.

She was wearing a normal-fitting crewneck t shirt and jeans. It would be pretty difficult to wear a less provocative outfit unless she was wearing rags. She was not walking like a model either, she was walking like a normal person. It is truly sad you cannot see this.

mingmao3046,

Wait, you actually think women enjoy being harassed by men if the man is attractive? That isn't the way it works.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this video is. We all know homeless people and losers who stand on the street all day give unwanted attention to actual members of society. Unfortunately, attractive women get the most of this attention.

However, acting like these men are merely being nice is frightening. They are definitely harassing this woman.

Your comments on this girl's boyfriend are also pathetic. There's a 100% chance you are a sad virgin.

Saying hi to someone is harassing? Are you socially inept?

I wouldn't qualify it as harassing if you merely said hi, although that is a bit strange to say to someone on a crowded city street when you have no relationship to them.

This entire thread save a couple people are socially inept. It is completely unacceptable to "compliment" someone by catcalling and saying "damn girl you beautiful" while objectifying her as a sexual object. That is a completely different scenario than normal compliments which are given to friends or acquaintances, or in a more normal way. Not every comment shown in the video is harassment, but most of them are.

No one is under obligation to say hi to you and strike up a conversation when walking on a busy city street. I have lived in major cities including NYC and I sure as hell don't have time to say hello to random strangers and have conversations with them. If I was an attractive woman and a man I did not acknowledge in any way whistled and try to engage me in conversation when I did not acknowledge him or show any interest I would feel threatened. These people do not have friendly intentions and if you think that you do not understand social norms.

It wouldn't be "harassment" because she would enjoy the attention. So saying "hey beautiful" is harassment? "Have a nice day"? What about this was harassment? Are men not allowed to talk to women in public?

Did it look like the woman in the video was enjoying the attention? She clearly wasn't. And yes, leering/catcalling at a random woman and yelling hey beautiful is harassment. It is astonishing that you, and others in this thread, cannot distinguish between this and a co-worker saying hello to you.

And no, not all women enjoy being catcalled at in the street or being engaged in unwanted conversation even if the man is attractive. The fact that you think all women enjoy that is scary.

Catcalling can be. Leering on a pass by? Nah.

Now stopping, turning around, and following while leering? Quite harassing and downright creepy.

I am quite unsure anywhere in the western world where a passing leer on some random woman will get you fined or in legal trouble. I am unsure anywhere in the western world where any sort of legislation got far in saying otherwise, either.

Part of the species that you will never ever get rid of. Kind of sad if you think women don't do the same damn thing. That everyone wears sunglasses cause of the sun, or that people don't fully utilize peripheral vision.

You misunderstood my post. I was using leer to describe what the men are doing while catcalling, whistling, yelling, etc. I don't even know what a passing leer would be since the word inherently means an unpleasant gaze but of course random glances are fine.

Would you be offended of a girl said hi to a random guy or smiled at a random guy as well?

If it was being done in the manner in the video of course. Add in the fact that these men are larger and pose as physically threatening to a woman, and that makes it even worse.

How would you feel if a offensive lineman from the NFL aggressively engaged you in unwanted conversation and continued to yell after you after you walked away? Would you not feel threatened? How about the several men in this video who even walked alongside her. One of them was silent but the other continually harassed her verbally.

Last time I checked women like assertive, not passive men.

All sorts of women like all sorts of men. There is no "standard".

Most women prefer aggressive/assertive men.

I hope that by this point in ur life you've noticed this.

Blanket statements like this are silly. Yes, women like confident men who have their shit together. I don't think women like "aggressive" men. Certainly not if aggressive includes accosting them on the street when they have shown zero interest.

You don't know anything about sex. If you want to be good at sex, you need to work at it.

It's completely normal for a grown woman not to want to deal with the baggage of having sex with a virgin.

Practice on hoodrats, or if you seek a relationship, make sure you are open and honest with the woman before you have sex with her. Just as there's nothing "wrong" with being a virgin, there's nothing "wrong" with not wanting to deal with virgin baggage as an adult.

Guy goes to the mall to stalk underage girls and is surprised by what he sees.

Have you ever been to a mall before? Are you mentally challenged?

This is like making a thread complaining about getting wet when it rains outside.
