@Vojtass: Oh for sure, and they even had him tour the set and everything. I imagine he might see this collaboration with the game studio as a form of betrayal, as the showrunner initially made a pretty big deal that this show would have no connection to any CD Projekt Red game or any media based on said game (like the comics they released after Witcher 3 that continued the game canon) and be exclusively about HIS work. He even sued CDPR at one point for more money. That all being said, all we can do is speculate on his absence until he makes an official statement, if ever.
@skritch: They very well might have, but based on previous interviews of Sapkowski he seems to be quite the reclusive grouch, and insanely disinterested in anything to do with the games.
I can only presume Doug Cockle (voice of Geralt from the game series) was unavailable to appear, as a sit-down conversation between him and Henry Cavill would have been insanely entertaining to watch.
@cj_topspin: Everyone else is either exclusively part of the story in the books/show (which takes place before the games) or original characters for the show.
@septimius_magna: Lol the Endgame reference was to put him in perspective in a recent, widely seen film. In regards to reverence to his talent, that's Twilight Samurai all day. Hard to find online these days but absolutely worth tracking down.
Clearly, we both agree that he deserved to be referenced in this piece.
How do you not mention the most well-known member of the cast and probably the coolest character in the trailer?? Hiroyuki Sanada (Twilight Samurai, Sunshine, Avengers Endgame) as Scorpion!
My moderate dyslexia almost made me crap my pants reading the article name.
Now that I've calmed down:
Eva Green would absolutely make the best Yennefer.
I think I would sooner have another actress (like Malin Ackerman) play Triss and simply dye their hair red (or auburn, like the books) if we're going simply for aesthetics.
It would totally be understandable if they approached and marketed the game as a homage to other RPGs (ala what BroForce does for action films/games), like "Hey we're taking characters based off of popular archetypes and stories and putting them in this super dark brooding aesthetic. Enjoy!" but it sounds like from what you're saying the developer was just cutting corners?
