On a further note, if you enjoy your experience so much you want toowna gun, then your best bet is to get a good .22 rifle. They're usually cheap, around the $200 range, and ammo is absurdly inexpensive ($20 for 400 rounds). If you're wanting to move up though...hard to go wrong with the good ol' Mosin Nagant. They run around $120 these days, shoot a full powered .30 round that's very cheap (not .22 cheap, but still) and is easy to clean and has the build of a tank. It's what I started out with.

Psssch, only if you shoulder it like a little girl...
Seriously though, don't shoulder it like a little girl. It will floor your ass.
Wait a minute...looking further at TIME I see this:

"As always, TIME's editors will choose the Person of the Year, but that doesn't mean readers shouldn't have their say. Cast your vote for the person you think most influenced the news this year for better or worse. Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 12, and the winner will be announced on Dec. 14."

This thread has lost all purpose abandon nowTrainerCeleste
What's best is to ignore the troglodyte and stay on topic. OP, if you're still here and weren't driven away, the go-to starting gun is a .22 rifle (usually a Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60, there's an unholy amount of different .22 rifles out there) which any decent firing range should have. You can move up from there if you enjoy it enough. Just remember, solid stance and keeping the butt firmly against your shoulder is key. Pistol shooting is a whole other ball game, and significantly more difficult.

Amusing, indeed. xD. I can clearly see you didn't understand what I wrote, but do you even understand what you wrote? Perhaps you can clear this up for us in your following post. bnarmz

No, I think I'm going to do something more productive with my time than debate with someone who contradicts himself at every turn and is the crown jewel of hilarity from a certain vaccination thread.

I'm sorry bud, guns would not exist today if they weren't made to kill. Having it as a sport (imo) is just barbaric bnarmz
So, you make one claim, and then directly undermine it in the immediate following sentence (Guns only exist to kill. Having these guns made for a sport is barbaric).

I think the word I'd use to describe this little banter is "amusing".

dont blame your frail disposition on me.

The person who thinks guns can only be used to kill things, that because he doesn't find something interesting then no one would, and that target shooting (a recognized Olympic event) doesn't exist is accusing me of having a frail disposition.

You have no clue what you're talking about and are just spouting off about a passionate belief you have without any knowledge on the matter. Just quit while you're behind.

Depends on what firearm your using and your wants. The caliber, type, and model of gun all impact how it feels physically. Psychologically, it depends on what you're wanting to experience. I get an absolute kick out of shooting the big and loud SVT-40, but the R700 bores me to tears. Always wear ear protection, always be safe, always follow the range rules (even if one or two may be completely asinine).
I always found cleaning my guns to be rather relaxing.

Seconded. I like to clean mine to classical or Russian Orthodox chanting.
guns were made to kill, nothing else. IMO, having a hobby where you kill for sport is a distructive past time. When a video game makes you interested in firing known dangerous devices, and to think it will feel awesome is a sign of trouble. bnarmz
You sicken me.
