Actually read the abstract for the article and it says that caffeine does not benefit or increase mental alertness or performance but it does increase motor performance. So the net effect is that caffeine drinkers who have consumed caffeine on a given day will not have higher mental alertness or performance to non-caffeine drinkers but they will have increased motor performance.
