@KitchMurder I've heard a few people pull the "they aren't like me I can't relate" thing quite a bit. One that I thought was extremely funny, and sad, was a girl who said she couldn't relate to any of the characters in Beauty and the Beast because she was black and none of them were. The entire movie is about how outward appearances don't matter, and she couldn't relate due to outer appearance. The first movie that made me cry was Oliver and Company, the opening with Oliver in the box and no one wanted made me cry, I was only 8 or 9 but I still cried.

I also don't get the problems they have with the characters. I'm not sure how someone who lost someone important to them is supposed to act, maybe happy and jolly, and not brooding and trying to find some reason to carry on when every reason is gone. And, let's face it, violent games are aimed at men because they enjoy and play them more often than women. So of course the main character will be male, and will suffer from something that men can easily relate to, losing someone who you care about and, yes, want to protect. Normally I'm all for getting rid of gender bullcrap and for equality, but it seems like some people just don't understand what being male or female means, and are more determined to get equal outcome, than they are about true equality. They are unable to take in and feel the joy and pain of a good story, because they're too worried about whether the characters are written in a way that they agree with.

@steelmouth You forgot the third option. Don't buy the console until it's hacked and you can play whenever you want.

"it must "provide clear benefits" for such a requirement, like extra content or featured services."

The problem with this is that there is no benefit to requiring always online to use. Extra content and featured services? I can go on and get those even if there is no always on requirement. What possible benefit do I get from being always on, instead of just being able to go on to use these services? This whole thing is a bunch of a crap, they're just trying to justify this ridiculous new DRM. I just hope people have enough sense to judge the console on it's merits and not fanboy-ness. I like Nintendo, but if they pulled this I'd be going away from them at the first possible chance.

@Deranged-Oh Same here. Due to the poor choices for internet service in my area High Speed has only recently become available for me. It's fairly reliable, but it drops out from time to time, as any internet connection does. I'm a huge Diablo fan and I didn't buy that because of the always on requirement. There's no way I'm gonna pay for a console that requires it.

It' true, if Microsoft has a internet connection requirement it would cut piracy and second hand sales by a lot. Most because no one would buy the console to pirate or purchase used games for it. At least, I can certainly say I won't be buying it until it's been hacked and I can run the thing offline. But then, just out of spite, I would only buy the console and games second hand.

I've never played a game with a character of a race, sex, or species for that matter, different than mine and had it affect my experience with the game, and most people are this way in my experience. I would say most people don't have a problem with options and more diverse games and what not, although, I assume the one guy would have liked an option at the beginning of Dragons Age to set his orientation as straight. What most people are worried about, I think, is it being forced. It doesn't matter to me if women out number men or men out number women in the gaming industry, as long as it doesn't happen by enforcing quotas . And, as long as options and ideas aren't forced out because they are seen as wrong or bad by other people. If someone wants to make a game specifically to appeal to gays, blacks, or whatever group they choose, they can go right ahead and do that. Just as long as they don't try to stop games from being made that appeal to straight, white, or whatever group, of people.

@twe1ve_5tones Well, the internet got itself heard with the blackout, and the internet is just a large group of people. I'm not sure if gamers could get events like those that took place in protest of SOPA to take place again. But the internet is a fairly powerful tool, and I think people can get themselves heard if someone gets it started.

I've heard most of these arguments before, and they've all been fairly easily countered by others. But, one thing in this article bothers me, and that is "Can you blame politicians...?". Yes, yes I can. Ignorance does not make you exempt from blame. They don't understand or care about this form of entertainment, just like so many other things, but they think they can attack it and legislate it as though they know best. Leland Lee show perfectly that he doesn't know what he is talking about, and is more than willing to write off a very large portion of the country because he doesn't agree with what they like to entertain themselves with.

I'm actually not sure why there is such a reaction to this. It's stupid, yes, but I'm not sure about offensive and everything else they're claiming. They said themselves it was supposed to be a reference to Greek sculptures. It is basically the Aphrodite of Melos sculpture that was found on the island of Melos in Greece. It is a version that has been turned into a torso by zombies and not by nature or whatever torsofied the original sculpture, but still. I wouldn't buy it because I don't see the point in owning it, but I don't see why it should illicit this sort of reaction.

Also, the breasts may be larger than average, but I wouldn't say they are unrealistically large Mr. Moriarty.
