For those that are either Metroid fans or have a good memory, I'm hoping you can help me out. This game has me completely dumbfounded; I have no idea where to go next.

Basically, I just uncovered the first little bit of Norfair. I have all the upgrades up until this point, or at least the main upgrades needed to progress in the game. There's no doubt that I'm probably missing some missile/health upgrades right now, but I'll worry about that once I figure a way past this little roadblock. The upgrades include the Hi-Jump Boots and the Spazer Beam, which I later found out I forgot after browsing walkthroughs.

So I get all the upgrades, I get to the Brinstar elevator room (the one that goes to Upper Norfair and use the super missile on the blocks located on the right side of the room, I jump up on top of the ledge, travel through the weird fish-like creature, and go through the door. There's a room divided in half by a horizontal beam that you can blow a crack in to access the lower half of the room, with three crabs crawling on the walls, and a blocked door that's brown and I can't enter.

I don't know if I'm lost for real or if there's a glitch in the emulation software that's preventing me from progressing further in the game. But I don't know what to do next. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

@jun_aka_pekto: I don't know. I think it would have been awesome to grow up back then. The development of games and hardware during that time was insane. It's almost surreal reading about it in 2014.

Of course computer games were a real pain in the butt back then, but it sounds like you guys made it work well! :p

30 FPS looks like a movie, 60 FPS looks like a camera man following you around.

@jun_aka_pekto: To me, the early 90s might as well have been a completely different era. I wasn't even alive in the early 90s! (95er over here)

Yeah, I probably would have figured out eventually that several of the cables have been missing (and I have) had I not asked you people first.

I'm sorry if this whole thread felt like a waste of time. The thing that you need to know about me is that if I am not entirely sure about something, I will ask LOTS of questions (to the point of annoying monotony at times) to ensure that I'm on the right track. Take this computer for example; the motherboard manual is not always specific, and that is crucial to me. Because if I don't receive SPECIFIC instructions, I will have no idea what to do whatsoever, even if the solution is glaringly obvious. I will behave extremely cautiously when undertaking a project to the point where I will go overboard at times, and I have always been like that. And it's primarily because if I make a mistake and **** something up, I know that I will be put on blast for it right away. That to me is worse than annoying people on an Internet forum because failure is simply not an option for me.

@ferrari2001: Eh, you guys are probably right. Best to just do a fresh install. My old hard-drive is a bloody mess anyways.

@ferrari2001: Yeah...I did some Google searching to look for more information about that and now I'm starting to get paranoid. Is it really crucial that I do a fresh install of Windows? Because everything seems to be working normally so far.(installed the new motherboard drivers and everything).

What sort of problems should I anticipate? Are there going to be problems launching apps, games, etc.?

Just wanted to give an update and say that everything seems to be working now. I got all the hard-drives working, and I also ended up buying a new optical drive which works fine, as far as I know. I haven't tried out any games on it yet, but everything else seems okay as of now. My old hard-drive is up and running (with Windows 7 already installed) and all my old files are still there. I hope I don't have any more problems.

Thanks for everybody that posted in this thread.

Never mind, got it working...sort of.

What I'm trying to do now is boot from my old hard drive instead; it already has Windows 7 installed. However, now it's booting, freezing halfway, and then my computer restarts and redirects me back to the motherboard screen. It keeps advising me to run a Start-up Repair, except it's not proving to be much help (none at all, as you might have figured). I already tried to run a System Restore, and apparently it worked. Too bad that I can't access my OS.

@jun_aka_pekto: It's definitely a SATA,

What I'm thinking is it might just be a problem with the optical drive and maybe it's not reading the disk. Because everything is plugged in correctly this time. Is it possible that the optical drive isn't working with this particular motherboard?

I'm gonna buy a new optical drive tomorrow and see if that's the problem.
