@Bamda: What? For submitting a relevant criticism of bad practices on a site where the quality of news continues to sink further into obscurity? Lol, okay. XD
@craigtl: It was already out he had the disk. There's no way he'd be able to sell it to anyone without both him and the buying party landing themselves in deep water. What you are suggesting is not very realistic.
@ps3gamer1234: In which case he probably would have had to deal with hefty consequences.
He did the right thing by first seeking legal counsel to see what actions were viable or appropriate, and then taking said action. It's easy for everyone to throw him under the buss and make unsound suggestions (because they themselves would not have to deal with the consequences of their suggestions), but I wouldn't blame the guy for taking a course of action least likely to land him in trouble and that, on the contrary, ended up netting him some reward.
It's at times like this that I seriously believe users should have the ability to flag articles, in this case for blatant spoilers. A spoiler alert would have simply been polite, but the fact that the spoiler appears not only on the article but also on the post title on the front page makes it very distasteful.
GameSpot, you seriously need to do some quality control here and stop letting your writers do whatever they like in their shameless hunt for clicks. This is quite disgraceful.
@craigtl: There's actually another side to it as well. Dark Souls was a great series, but it was also had a very niche (and not particularly large) target market. Therefor it could even be said that trying to associate this new title too heavily with Dark Souls could actually backfire and alienate a large audience base that may not be interested in the challenge or style often associated with the Souls series.
So, unless this game is actually trying to be like a Souls game, it should not try to sell itself as one.
@Gelugon_baat: Indeed, but I think that's part of why they decided to end the series at number 3, so that it doesn't become too stale. Though some would say they still enjoy the series and wish for more, I do think it's commendable for the developers to want to explore new ideas instead of just rehashing existing ones. That being said, I think it's fitting that Dark Souls 3 ended as just that, a Dark Souls game through-and-through to the end, without trying to be anything besides what it is.
Of course, that's not to say they didn't try to freshen things up a bit with things like combat arts, but even that didn't really change the core mechanics of the combat so much as simply add a bit of variety.
