@mr_indiff: No, you should be able to pick it up fine without issue irrespective of whether you played the first or not (the first didn't involve much story, so you didn't miss anything in that regard).

That being said, having the first does have its advantages, because they will add a mega campaign that combines the maps and races from the first game with the second, which you can access if you have both games.

@zmanbarzel: I think it's not the pursuit of cultural accuracy, but rather the perpetual fear of offending others all the time that is starting to get on people's nerves. It's gotten to the point where everyone has to walk on eggshells for fear of saying or doing something they're supposedly not meant to say or do, and the media tends to perpetuate this social anxiety, which ironically, only serves to increase the divide between different cultures and races further, rather than serve to mend it.

If you alienate people from different walks of life through fear and anger, you're not making things better or more morally correct, you are just fanning the flames.

You know, when I look at these guys and how they're putting so much effort into trying to fix the issues with No Man's Sky, despite the overwhelming negative backlash at launch, and then compare it to how quickly and easily a massive publisher like EA gave up on Mass Effect Andromeda, I can't help but feel some respect for Hello Games. Of course, it also increases my loathing for EA that much more.

And while it could be said that efforts to fix either respective game has no guarantee for rewards, the simple effort alone (or lack of thereof) just makes it that much more clear who's only after the money and who actually cares about their reputations and their customers. I'm not saying that excuses the disaster of a launch No Man's Sky had, but I certainly can't say anything bad about their continued efforts to make it better.

@gleencross: I understand the potential technical difficulties, however, I am not the one who made the statement of introducing a mega campaign with both maps combined, the developers did. It is going to be a thing, that much is confirmed, and I'd presume if they are dead set on introducing it, they must have confidence in their ability to optimize the campaign map to allow for it. They even stated that there were lots of optimizations they could potentially implement in order to ensure the best experience possible.

This isn't a question of "if" or "maybe", a mega campaign is a confirmed feature. How well it works we'll see when it launches.

@gleencross: It's not that hard. All you have to do is merge some of the minor factions with the major ones (like merging smaller empire stats with the empire) to reduce the amount of overall factions on the world map and thus make the cycle through AI turns reasonable.

But they already said that it will involve every race. Note, I said every race, not every faction. O_o

@Mogan: That is correct, however, you will be able to use all races from the first and second game in the combined mega campaign in the second game, including Norsca. So in a way, it is for both.
