I liked Final Fantasy X. I really did, it was a lot better to me than IX for some reason. I think the only problem with X was Tidus and how whiny he was--I mean look at Cloud, he's B.A. Leon (Squall), also B.A. So then we get Tidus, who is not, and the closest thing I can see to either of the previously mentioned characters is Auron, but he's not the "title" character. Other than that, loved it! Good times.

Who LOVED the web/checkerboard/gem upgrade system (sorry I don't remember what it's technical term was)? :D

That would be the sphere grid.

I've heard lots of complaints about Tidus, but he's my personal favorite protagonist of the franchise. Heaven forbid that a FF hero not be a brooding jackass!

Hold on Cloud's got something to say in his defense.

"......."

Oh wait, nevermind.

I agree, I liked Tidus for how he wasn't your typical cookie cutter RPG protaganist. He's not a bad ass, he's a celebrity sports star. He's never fought anyone in his life. Then suddenly he finds himself having to help save a world that is completely alien to him and is the polar opposite of what he's used to. I put the emphasis on "help" becauase throughout the game Tidus is really just along for the ride and is more or less dependent on his compatriots to guide him around. However, by the end of the game he's pretty much the one calling the shots. That's quite some character development and it's a lot more than fan favorite Cloud ever had.

It's been my observation that most of the people who say they hated FFX only hated it because of Tidus. For some reason a lot of people must have the stereotypical retired military badass protaganist in order to enjoy their game. God forbid the main character is actually somewhat vulnerable and sensitive.

I'm going to say that maybe Tidus isn't the right character for everyone. I love the everyman though in terms of story, really, I do. I don't need my main protagonist to be a brooding bad ass that doesn't talk much and is in the military. OK maybe Tidus wasn't that bad--I mean, he's not my favorite, but there are other protagonists not in the Final Fantasy continuum that I like that are NOT badass and ARE vunerable. For instance, the main character of Dead Space is a just an everyman engineer that wants to find his girlfriend and gets sucked into the horrors that is the Ishimura. Peter Parker was a young college student that was geeky and for the most part helpless, and then he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets thrust into an extraordinary lifestyle change. Shoot, I loved Sora from Kingdom Hearts--innocent and just trying to sort things out (and not badass at all, plus he's got Goofy and Donald with him..how can you be?)...

So yeah I see what you're saying. Touche.

Man this is a pretty good list to choose from! I would have to say Resident Evil though, as a series, because it basically set the precident for the survival horror genre. I mean, Silent Hill didn't come out to 1999, and you can't say that they didn't play Resident Evil and say: "Man we could do some of this." And to me I have better memories with that series (Resi) anyway.

I will say however that Silent Hill DID creep me out A LOT though.

Well I just posted this on my blog at 1UP.com too, but this is something that everyone should revel in, and even if it's been done before, it's a better way to share your love for gaming!

Hello fellow video gamers! Wow...I haven't been on here in quite a while. Got out of High School and am soon to be pursuing my game design career at college, but that's just news that is in my life. Here's a revolutionary new idea that should get gamers to unit worldwide, and that's kind of the point of this idea anyway. Today, my friends, is Video Game Heritage Day, or VGHD.

Some of you maybe asking yourselves, Mike, what's up with VGHD and why did you even think about it? The answer is simple--remember the days when you could just relax, and play games that genuinely entertained you? The days where it was obviously nice out, but you were inside playing the latest installment of a game because you were that addicted? Those memories that make your heart warm and fuzzy when you completed something? That's what I'm aiming for here.

It's a day (or weekend, but the official DAY is today) to celebrate all things gaming related. Buy an old game to celebrate the good times, or buy a new game to relish in the progression of today's gaming industry! Here are a couple things I recommend doing on VGHD:

-Play a Pokemon game to relive the glory days of being young.
-Go play some old school games like Frogger or Pac-Man!
-Get some friends together and multiplay it up--Halo, COD4, Goldeneye, F-Zero, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, whatever your heart desires!
-Buy the latest game! Wii Fit, Metal Gear Solid 4, Soul Calibur IV and other latest releases!
-Rent or buy a really TERRIBLE game and proceed to gather friends and make fun of it! It'll be the laugh of the party! Recommended: 18 Wheeler!
-Just play your favorite games!

Remember, the whole point of this day/week is to enjoy the spirit of gaming! Be sure to post your thoughts on the day and share your favorite things of the day here!

-TacticsGamer33

So, feel free to post stuff of the day/weekend here!!

So I think I've narrowed it down to either Front Mission or Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. Both are, uhh...RPG's kinda, but from what I can tell (and barely remember) Front Mission is like Final Fantasy Tactics with mechs. But I'm not completely sure, and I haven't seen any review by GameSpot on DQM:Joker, which is strange to me. Any suggestions?

Please and thank you,

Okay so since I accidentally skipped over the sticky (which was stupid on my part), I realize I must utilize it's mighty powers for this one question, and hopefully someone'll help me.

Which one:
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker
Front Mission
Animal Crossing DS: Wild World
Digimon World DS

If you could solve this riddle, it would be much appreciated! Hope I'm not waisting your time, and thanks again!

Here's the real question: I have money to buy one of the following great DS titles: Dragon Quest Monster: Joker, Digimon World DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, or Front Mission. Which one should I get? I've been heavily trying to study up on scores and opinions and reviews, and I can't make up my mind! Which one should I get? Which one is more fun? More hours to play? More FULFILLING? Harder to put down? I don't know, and it'd be awesome if the GameSpot community could help!

Thanks,
~TacticsMike33

Curious, is this game gonna be a straight up rail shooter (House of the Living Dead esque) or is it an action-shooter type game?

Well, I was a Nintendo die-hard at the time, so here was my reaction:

Whatever.

Seriously, I didn't really think much of the Playstation much. It made me laugh that Sony was moving into the game industry, and little did I know that the Playstation franchise would be one of the biggest staples in gaming history, big enough to rival that of Nintendo itself. Yep, I really didn't think much of it, and laughed when people were like "DUDE, THE PLAYSTATION IS GONNA ROCK! BLAHH!"

Wow this is a ways in the future isn't it? Ha! Oh well, here's what I expect in my best sales pitch voice possible.

I expect a super-high priced gaming machine that not only does just games, oh no, but also plays hi-res future formatted DVDs and movies, gets access to the internet, AND has a virtual store with things to buy! WOAH! Oh but that's not all, it'll come with games exclusive to the Playstation 4, such as METAL GEAR 6: SNAKE'S ON A PLANE and FINAL FANTASY XXXXIVVIIIII! It'll be so beautiful to look at that even when the games are OFF, the machine still LOOKS HIGH DEF! WHAT? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

:D All jokes aside, it's probably going to be one beautiful piece of machinery...if not highly priced and in the beginning, not very useful. But most likely it'll turn out to be pretty sweet, and also it will revolutionize it's current system franchise even more (screw tilty controls, something bigger'll come out)...or we'll stick with Dual Shock. :D
