Thanks for the response guys, proper helpful. I can't remember when I got my console, tbf it's lasted *years* but... I dunno, when I spend hundreds of pounds (pounds that I shouldn't really be spending) on a console I'd rather avoid stuff like this lol. Very frustrating. No games for me until I have money it seems. And yeah @i_noseworthy, good point actually, should keep an eye on the forums to see if YLOD happens often with the slims before giving yet *more* money to Sony for what's effectively a faulty product. Can't believe they're not properly addressing an issue like this.

I'll keep pestering the thing to give me the disk back, will update if I get any luck. Thanks again all!

Just need some help about the dreaded YLOD. My PS3 died with it last night and I've been looking at options and stuff. Imo what I'll do is just ditch all the save games (ohhh the pain) and buy a PS3 Slim and start over, remembering to keep my data backed up in future. Two questions before I commit to anything though (pfft, I can't afford to do anything about it for months anyway):

1. I bought an expansion on PSN for Fallout 3 a few months ago. Is this expansion assigned to my PSN ID or stuck on my dead PS3? Will I be able to download it to a new console without paying *again*? Something tells me no.

2. My PS3 died while I was playing Oblivion. So... the disk is still in the console. Any way to get this out? I'd rather do it on the cheap but if the process of opening the PS3 is heavily involved I don't really trust myself to damage something that I could potentially sell for parts.

In fact, extra question:

3. What in god's name do I do with the PS3 I have now?? I'm weird about selling something that has so much of my data on there (ie. friends lists, saved games, log in details, music, films etc.). Could I get someone to extract the hard drive then get it sold off as parts or what?

Grrr, I hate YLOD. I would just go and get my PS3 repaired (I've found somewhere that'll get it fixed for just under £60, that's including postage there and back) but I don't trust it to not balls up again. And let's be honest... getting a new console is exciting. Right now I have an obese 60GB console. Any help would be appreciated.

The Experimental MIRV from Fallout 3.

Probably not the coolest but I've had a lot of fun with it regardless :P

I generally agree, buuuut I'm sure it is possible for them to be rehabilitated. As you say there *is* a mental issue with people who do this sort of thing, I'm not trying to give them excuses but trying to cure it where possible I think is the best thing for it.

What's wrong in today's society is, at least in the UK, paedophiles and other sex offenders are often let out after their sentence. Not after they've been cured, just after their initial sentence. That's why they're repeat offenders. They need to be kept in an institute where they can be monitored and rehabilitated, not let out a few years early for good behaviour.

Your mum had the right idea, you do not :P

But seriously, my parents weren't very political *at all*, they passed on very few principles to me that weren't particularly obvious (be kind, treat others as you want to be treated blah blah blah). I've formed my liberal views myself.

Best band I've seen live? Muse, hands down. They've been my favourite band for years :D seeing them again in November!

Shame about their new album :( and I wish they'd stop appearing on the damn Twilight soundtracks :x

Religion can't just use science when it wants to to make the bible sound realistic. "Oh... well... at the time... WATER WAS QUITE THICK, AND JESUS'S MASS WAS DIVINE SO HE COULD WALK ON IT QUITE EASILY."

Grrrr.
