One more negative thing I've found about Max Payne 3 is the s*** controls for quicktime events. The controls are horrible on mouse/keyboard. I got to one part in chapter 9 or 10 and couldn't get past it after multiple fails. But then, I plugged in my XBox controller and passed it in one go. Otherwise, I still am enjoying the game. I wish devs wouldn't put quicktime events in games.

[QUOTE="biggest_loser"] Yes. Thats why it deserves to be considered the best one. The story isn't ruined. It is the same old Max just in a rehab. Max Payne is famous for bulletime shooting which Max Payne 3 is the best at=best one of the franchise

SPYDER0416

Its actually very different from the first two and thats why its weaker. It loses the idiosyncratic feel of the other two games, with a muddled story and awkward game play choices. As a series Max Payne never needed speedboat chases..

Being different doesn't make it bad. The gameplay in Max Payne 3 is extraordinary, it is far superior compared to most shooters this generation. The speedboat chase scene did not feel out of place at all. The Max Payne games were always a bit crazy and over the top, so I didn't see anything wrong with adding a chase scene.

I also think its much closer to the spirit of the first game then the second game was. Its still got that escalation of events that happens, and the absurdly cheesy dialogue in Max Payne 2 killed it for me, where the 3rd takes it a bit more seriously and the story has that same lonely darkness around it that the first had.

I mean, I enjoyed the second game, but in my opinion it had the worst writing in the series and while the gameplay was a massive improvement on the first, the third game has obviously surpassed it.

I'm only in the third chapter of Max Payne 3, but I already prefer it over Max Payne 2. I think the writing is much better, and the story line of Max's life makes perfect sense in the third game. It would have been cheesy to continue Max Payne 3 right where 2 left off, since there was such a long time between games. The new game has evolved, just like Max's character would have in real life. My only complaint is Rockstar's save system. I hate not being able to save where ever I want.

So, I've been marathoning the series. I finished the first game and now I am starting the 3 chapter of the second game. My first impressions are that the first game had a darker, more sinister atmosphere and I like the story line a little more in the first one. The action in the second game feels a little more fluid and real, however, and some of the levels are brilliant. I think the Coney Island level is absolutely great.

Easily two of the best fps games I've played. One thing in particular I've noticed is the approach to combat. I'm used to sneaking around and taking cover in fps games, but it seems like many of the scenarious in both Max Payne games encourage you to go in guns blazing...in fact, often times it's more effective.

Again, thanks for the recommendations.

It will be interesting to see how you like the third after just playing through one and two. That is if you plan on getting the third.

Just got it in the mail today. I'm installing it right now.

it's the beauty of the "old school":) you will have that mode in the 3rd game.

however, note, it's not brute gun blazing; it's constantly moving, dodging, rolling, with precise aiming and shooting.

btw, Max Payne is third person shooter~

Oh, yeah. Heh, I'm so used to shooters being fps.

So, I'm looking for a new series to play from start to finish. I'm thinking about either the Max Payne series or the Assassin's Creed series. Is the original Max Payne worth playing? I'm fine with older games, as long as the gameplay is good.
