Not necessarily. If marijuana is made legal, the government will be forced to remove the side effects that most people connect with marijuana. In order to do that, companies will make it highly filtered and make it low THC. So, the calming, hallucinogenic effects will be removed from the substance. However, that will also make the substance safe for public use.
The people that want the marijuana for THC will still have to buy it illegally off the streets. Crime rates will not diminish at all and the substance will still not be controlled.
EDIT : And, yes, marijuana does harm your body.

Yous say "mind altering" buddy, staying up late has a more mind altering effect on you than weed. you say "hallucinogenic" WHAT THE **** what retarded study did you get that from? weed doesn't make you have hallucinations, its not acid, its weed. and yes, weed does have negative harmful effects on your body, anything you light on fire and inhale will have harmful effects on you body.
