My new AMD build is called "Tide of Flames." Looking to sell my good rig now and ride this bang-for-the-buck one :D

New AMD Build from start to (almost) finish:

Case + PSU (some cables not shown):

Motherboard, CPU, Ram, installed and on mobo tray:

Love the look of this OCZ Plat ram

This will be our little secret, ok? :)

(Mostly) Finished Product:

I will take another picture once I install the video card. For those interested, the specs are:
Phenom II X2 550 (Unlocked to X4 B50 - 3.1Ghz Quad Core) - Now 3.5GHZ
4GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-1066
Biostar TA790GX 128mb
MSI HD4830 512mb (4+1 power phase, samsung chips, super OC'r) - Now 731/1125
Western Digital 640GB 32mb HDD
LianLi LanCool K12 (Metal Boned...)
Antec Earthwatts 380w
Scythe Katana 3
Windows 7 x64

When I have time I'll post my main rig, which isn't as cable-friendly. I highly recommend this case to builders of at least moderate experience.

Here's an updated pic of my AMD rig from a few pages back with the video card installed. (Smaller than the other pix due to an intransigent blackberry)

Also, here's my benching results so far: 3dmark06 14509 - OC the HD4830 to 731/1125 - an exact 25% increase. It translated into a 19.6% boost in 3dmark score, which is pretty damn impressive.

HD4850 to any of those cards is not a substantial upgrade. The HD4890 is the only one I'd consider, in terms of performance (none in terms of value tho). I'd wait it out till DX11 hits. That said, I upgraded from a GTX 260 to a GTX 285 and was very satisfied, despite it being a somewhat silly upgrade.

Running my x2 550 as a 3.2Ghz quad, it did not exceed 40C in a prime run this morning. It's the first HSF I've used that I actually feel like heat is being effectively disappated through the pipes and fins. Also, the base and pipes are both copper (all-copper base). Having used the AC7 Pro for my Intel build, I would highly recommend the fp 64. However I cannot attest to its ability to cool quads.

The X2 550 will tear it to shreds. Oh, and if you're worried about # of cores....

Would also recommend a AC Freezer Pro

I'm returning the HD4670 I bought for my spare AMD rig, replacing it with a fancy HD4830 (Super MSI one)
