Don't just remake FF7. Remake FF7 with branching storylines. Suddenly you have more money than you know what to do with.
"In response to the financials, Square Enix pledged to increase the turnover of its titles, increase its amount of mobile and tablet games, and create titles more specifically suited for the regions they are primarily being sold in; Square Enix's phone and browser games have been hugely successful in the Japanese and Korean markets, for example."
There isn't much money in mobile/tablet games in the USA. Not for the kind of games SE likes popping out. Mobile/Tablet gamers over here are cheap. They only like paying very small amounts for their entertainment, and I don't think Enix has the development studios that excel in making cheap ripoffs of old flash games at very low development costs. Unlike Korea/Japan, western gamers tend to spend a LOT less in cash shops as well. Thinking that they can go that route to find financial success is simply indicative of their complete ignorance to the state of the market.
Try listening to fans. They're the ones buying your games, after all. No one has been waiting 7 years for FF13 Sequel 2, yet how many people have called for Final Fantasy Versus to be finished?
@bbq_R0ADK1LL I believe in Final Fantasy they're 'knocked out', not dead. At least until your entire party is wiped. The phoenix down wakes them up, basically.
@GOGOGOGURT @Ometh Frankly, I don't get why a developer with Bungie's pull would ever want to be associated with Activision. There are plenty of other publishers out there. You'd think they'd be a last resort.
@kente10 Oh Master of Creativity, share your wisdom with us on what 'original' idea they should come up with. You do realize that -everything- these days has major conceptual similarities to existing games? It's just not possible to come up with something -completely- original. Unless you want to play games like that stupid Street Cleaner Simulator from a while back. There's a reason that shit is never done. It's not because people don't think about it.
@_huh It's not 'overdone'. It's done frequently because you can spin an aliens vs human game an infinite amount of ways. It can always be different because there are no restrictions on the technology, the aliens, whatever. The reason you don't see many American Civil War games is because the gameplay can only vary so much between games in the same genre. The same goes for its setting.
Crysis and Halo are games with very similar concepts and execution, yet the gameplay and storylines are so dramatically different its not even funny. I've never heard someone say, "Yawn. Not going to bother with Crysis. Already played Halo."
@Hobbes444 @ninedot Let's not forget that SEGA was actually the first to offer online gaming, color graphics on their portables, and the most advanced system of its time: The Dreamcast.
Of course, it was their innovation that led to their downfall, as people weren't ready to shell out the required money. You should be happy, ninedot, that Sony learned from Sega's mistakes.
