I played the game. Beat it. Saw the horrible ending. Tried playing multiplayer for a few more days after. Traded the game in.

Sorry, Bioware - you ruined a good thing (even the BBB agreed - THAT was funny), and I've yet to see anything that restores my faith in the company.

There's no win here. He was investigated. The case is being considered. No, it's likely not going anywhere - but it's a lesson. Sarcasm, joking, whatever - talking about killing kids (especially when so many are tense about it already) is not going to be taken lightly.
