Although Diablo 3 is a real **** game, the CGI is amazing.

[QUOTE="Sentinel112"]With all due respect but the combat is not BAD in most infinity engine games. And although Icewind Dale was better then it's sequel; it cannot hold a candle against BG2.Lucianu

Icewind Dale is a dungeon crawler with exploring, looting and combat being the central focus, and it does those elements quite well. Baldur's Gate 2 is a RPG with emphasis on story progression and character interactions.

It holds a candle if you're actually looking at both of these games for what they are, and not compare Baldur's Gate pros with Icewind Dale's intended lack of (the story and characters) because of the design choice of what it is. I really loved Icewind Dale more than BG2, which i don't really like at all.

Maybe it was not crystal clear in my former post. I do mean that even the combat in BG2 is better then in ID.

While not playing Baldur's Gate 2, I do own Planescape Torment. While the game's premise is incredibly intriguing, the gameplay for me is just... unplayable. It is mostly due to my lack of knowledge of how these games actually work, as I do go back time to time and learn a little more each time.

If the story is that good in Planescape, I'll read a walkthrough online or something. I have no shame in how I spend my time and enjoy things. Come at me brothers.

Lucianu

There's nothing unplayable about it unless you're referring to the combat. The combat has always ben bad, Infinity Engine games aren't exactly note worthy for that. The only Infinity Engine game in which i enjoyed the combat was Icewind Dale, which is a dungeon crawler.

Planescape Torment's emphasis is almost solely on its settings and story. It's more of a adventure game.

With all due respect but the combat is not BAD in most infinity engine games. And although Icewind Dale was better then it's sequel; it cannot hold a candle against BG2.

[QUOTE="Nighteg"]I tried Morrowind. Gave it about 5 hours. After hitting a rat at about 10% success rate, i decided to delete it.KHAndAnime

This. This.

1000x this.

All this talk of the immersion of Morrowind compared to the other games; I can't even hit a rat standing in front of me while clearly making contact with my weapon. If that doesn't break immersion I don't know what does. Frustrating enough to where I quit the game within 10 hours.

Often the way people describe their experience with Morrowind makes me truly wonder if they've ever played RPGs before. If you want a sword-fighter, go play Mount & Blade. Morrowind isn't a sword-fighter and it's based on RPG mechanics that are extremely common (but have become less common today). How long did you guys last through Baldurs Gate 2? Ten seconds?

I loved BG2. The game immediately hooked me. Morrowind on the either hand, bored me. It could not compare to might and magic 6. I think most people who love Morrowind these days are those for whom Morrowind was their first free roaming rpg.

am i the only one that think diablo is a lame game?

yomanjdf
NO. You are not alone. The final installment might go down in history as one of the worst 'games' ever. I don't have a particular bad bond with the former games. At least they are true games at heart which can be quite addicting for the majority of gamers.

Well I can say my self that I actually prefered FEAR1 to HL2 which was released like a year later.. But unlike FEAR.. HL2 was just a complete package with CSS.. Not to mention the endless slew of mods.

JC_AEK4ever

FEAR is much better than HL2 hands down.

Imo FEAR failed on what it promised to have. It came out in 2005 in the same month with Condemned: Criminal Origins and Call of Cthulhu and it was the least scary. Then the expansions (and later FEAR 2 and 3) came out and destroyed any hope for the series. Same thing happened with Far Cry 2 and Crysis 2.

HL1 and HL2 were both great games. But I am sure if HL3 is very bad everyone is going to forget about them.

F.E.A.R. failed on what it promised to have? Have you been smoking? It delivered in spades. The game was advertised as a full blood shooter with tons of John Woo action and a paranormal story. This entire "horror aspect" lended itself to the game only at the end of the developing cycle. But it was never intended to be the core element. So don't make up any lies, bro! Beside as soon as someone mentions this, I already know more then enough ... It is like I would say: I am not going to hire this candidate for being an accountant in my company because he doesnot have green eyes. Get a grip and learn to distinguish what is relevant or not in a certain situation. Edit: F.E.A.R. 2 and 3 sucked donkeyballs.

[QUOTE="Sentinel112"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"] An Adventure Game? It's not really a gamer's game? Am I really reading this or am I dreaming?Socijalisticka

Maybe I overreacted a bit but still ... You stated it yourself in one of your former posts: character progression and story pacing. Those elements ARE LOVED by those who worship Half-Life 2. I have asked in a post a few pages back, which elements turn Half-Life 2 into this amazing FPS? I have yet to see an answer from anyone. The last years there are so many 'games' coming out which are in fact just interactive movies or novels in disguise. Don't get me wrong: there is indeed a huge market for those. Sadly this trend does not benefit me.

The exception is that there exists no game with the interweaving of gameplay elements, storytelling, setpieces, the detail behind every environment, pacing or characters as exhibited in Half-Life 2. Let alone those half-assed indie interactive games.

Really. Because I think such a game already came out in 2001: it is called Max Payne which had a far bigger impact on me then HL2.

What are you talking about?

Half Life 2 is an adventure game. People would still play it if they stripped the game away from all its guns. People worhip it for the exact same reasons they worship Dear Esther. Half-Life 2 is not really a gamer's game and hence to me it is vastly overrated.

[QUOTE="Wasdie"]

Well PC gamers have been more inclined to hate on what's popular more than ever before. They trash games just to keep some status quo of being "hardcore".Wasdie

That's an unfair generalization, just because someone doesn't like your favourite videogame doesn't mean they're trying to be hardcore and edgy. Someone may you know, just not like the game or don't include it in their top 10/top 5/best game ever. And really, the sheep behaviour you're describing here can't be applied to what you call "edgy, hardcore PC gamers" because they're going against what is commonly recognized as the status quo among PC gamers.

It's also an unfair assumption to say that Half-Life 2 is my favorite game just because of what I said.

I'm just saying what I see with PC gamers today. In 2004 Half-Life 2 was universally praised among gamers (hence the high scores). Though now it seems that people like to hate it and say it's overrated for whatever reason. I'm chalking this one up to a new mentality with PC gamers. Nothing is ever good enough for them and popular games are bad.

It's one thing to have a complaint with the game, but i've seen the opinion of the community take a complete 180 turn on this one. I don't think I've ever seen a game go for years being praised as the king of all games to being overrated and boring.Maybe Half-Life 2 being ported to the consoles had something to do with it too. People get all crazy when they lose their precious exclusives...

Half-life 2 was NOT universally praised among gamers. True alot of Half-Life 2 diehard fanboys were roaming the forum around its release. Pretty much the same thing happened when Diablo 3 was released this year. Tons of Diablo 3 fanboys and girls claiming it was the best game ever. A few months later people regained their senses .... Can you honestly please tell me what exactly stood out as you value it as a game? Because I did not saw it then. And I still don't see it. Which gameplay element turns Half-Life 2 into this masterpiece anyone claims it to be?
