I have the DS and PSP and play my DS more than any other system I own (I also have a Wii and PS3). Meanwhile my PSP just collects dust. PSP needs more than 1 decent release every 3 months if Sony wants it to really be worth while...
Screen protectors on the touch screen is a good start. They're around $6 or so at gamestop/EB Games. Also the DS pouch case that zipps up, has the sleeve inside and a zip-up accessory pouch on the back is a good choice of a case for about $15-$20
