[QUOTE="STWELCH"]

Thanks for the help guys; my first choice was the 5770, and this thread solidifies it even more.

How much of a performance increase do you think I'll manage with the new card?

lol, I was only expecting 3x :)

So, my specs are:

E6750 (Not overclocked)

2 Gb Ram

X1950XT

Now, I think my vid card is the weak link of this system; thus, I am looking for suggestions for an upgrade. Price range is around $150, but I can go a little higher.

Thanks in advance!

[QUOTE="STWELCH"][QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"][QUOTE="STWELCH"][QUOTE="MetalGear_Ninty"] I would disagree. You don't need a degree in leprechaunology to dispel the myth of leprechauns.

I don't see how an intricate knowledge of Christian theology would be all that helpful.

MetalGear_Ninty

God, leprechauns, same thing, right?

Bad analogy, an analogy that Dawkins is far too fond of.

And no, it wouldn't be amazingly helpful, but it would allow for more serious debate, rather than the broad, crude bashing they love to do.

You didn't say why it was a bad analogy. 9no God and Leprechauns aren't the same thing, but isn't that the whole point of an analogy?)

Anyways, probably not Hitchens, but Dawkins and Harris do participate in serious debate, but of course, they don't engage in the over sensitive and politically correct methods that some love.

Because the belief in Leprechauns don't occupy the central belief of billions of people.

Leprechauns are a specific concept, right down to the actions they perform; God is a pretty broad subject.

The abstract nature of the subject of God is something that Leprechauns do not have; leprechauns are immanent within the physical universe, specifically, Ireland.

God, in a rough approximation of religious theology, is supposed to transcend the universe.

Dawkins doesn't dismiss the concept of God. He dismisses certain concepts of God; I doubt he realizes that the other conceptions of God that might be intellectually appealing to him do exist, which is why I would suggest to him reading more theology.

As a concept, God is not entirely transcendant -- just look at Jesus.

Anyway, I don't how any of those things requires you to have a heavily studious knowledge of theology.

Anyway, in his book, The God Delusion, he doesn't just look at the Abrahamic concepts of God. I dare say though, that there are so many concepts of God, that it would be virtually impossible to research them all comprehensively.

In regards to Christology, that is more reflective of God's omnipotence: the fact that He can become powerless unto death.

The Israeli state was arbitrarily made on guilt and religious grounds out of Palestinian territory; Palestine needs to be given more than the finger by the world governments, considering how screwed over they have been.

The first option, absolutely. In extreme cases, us mods use our own discretion, but I'm for a relative lack of intellectual censorship.

Hm.

I haven't read the God Delusion yet, but I always mean to; I just finished God is Not Great, and as much as I love Christopher Hitchens, my main complaint is its isolated arguments; he uses his personal experience to justify wanton abandonment of religion.

Letter to a Christian Nation I found quite absurd.

I found that the arguments against the existence of God work far less effectively than the one's that simply dismiss the idea of God as relevant, as men like Nietzsche and Marx do; people are only partly rational, and as such, will believe in God so long as it has meaning for them. Any form of rational argument will not deter them. When it loses meaning for them, no amount of argument can change that, which is why Nietzsche and Marx are so potent.

MetalGear_Ninty

God is not Great was the most dry of the list I gave for me. Probably for the reason you mentioned here. It focuses mostly on anecdotes for him or for history. History is all well and good, but I personally prefer more scientific and philosophical works.

I really enjoyed The God Delusion, but if you found Letter patronizing good portions of Delusion will likely feel the same way. He does include science and philosophy that is sound throughout the vast majority, but he does revel a bit in his blasphemy and his mocking of the opposition.

Well, I'm a fan of Hitchen's humor, but I'm glad we share the same critique.

My man problem, and I will echo Alister McGrath here, is that among this crowd of unbelievers like Hitchens, Dawkins, and Harris, only Hitchens seems to have a rough knowledge of Christian theology; and even that is sketchy. Of course, one shouldn't expect men like them to be particularly knowledgable of the subject, but it's almost embarrasing reading their criticisms and see how well worn they are; I prefer academic philosophers arguments to them; much more fun.
