I'm still here! But I share the same sentiments about GS. This community is very different now. I won't comment on how I really feel, but my attention has gone to other places. I follow more people on Youtube these days than anything else.

I'll look for you on those other sites and try to comment when I can. I'm on the verge of starting my own YouTube channel and Twitch, but I'm about 2 months out. Need a new PC. I'll keep you posted on that.

@Xristophoros: I don't really get what you mean by "evolve". If you don't think sailing, flying, transforming into a wolf, changing art styles, bigger worlds, different stories, new equipment, are part of the evolution process than what game has evolved in your mind? This doesn't even take into account the handheld Zeldas released since OoT. If one thing hasn't changed much in the 3D Zeldas it's the combat, though, I'd even argue that they're plenty of examples to show that it has. I'm not trying to say that each 3d Zelda game is amazing, skyward sword definitely wasn't perfect by any means. Maybe I'm just not sure what you mean by evolve.

@Prats1993: Making the player interact with a game in a way that is unexpected and unknown is not a gimmick. Don't hate on something because it takes you out of what you're used to. I find it so awesome that Nintendo keeps throwing curve balls at us. Nintendo doesn't just think of gameplay/story/graphics/etc..., but they are always thinking about how players actually interact with the game itself. Sure, often they give us the standard button pressing, but sometimes they don't. What other developers do this? I can't think of many. A few come to mind who are involved with VR mainly because that platform has forced them to.

@chris120379: Immersion doesn't always have to involve your eyes being locked to one screen. Jumping back and forth between two screens during a hectic battle sounds pretty immersive to me. Not to mention, intense. What, are you worried about that .1 seconds of time where you eye balls might catch a glimpse of something that is not a lcd screen?

@magnusstorm: Apologize if I offended anyone with that, but it was honest. I think they look tacky. Clearly, you don't. And that's how the cookie crumbles.

@spaced92: If half bought digital and half bought physical and next time around they want all digital, you'd have to assume that at least some of the 50% who went physical would go digital. To think those 50% bought physical simply because they hate digital is just ridiculous.

There is a vast majority of us, including myself for the longest time, who obsess over a physical copy. It's hard to let go of some things, and view points, that you've held for a very long, long time. I'm not sure what actually made my opinion change all of a sudden, but I think once I started downloading a lot of indie games and virtual console game on my Wii U and realizing how cool it was to seamlessly change games without getting my butt off the coach, must of had something to do it.

And to be honest, I always thought large video game collections look pretty tacky and as I've gotten older have realized that less clutter in general is conducive to overall happiness.

Love the blog post. As you mentioned and shown, the Wii U already has games that are considered collector's items, and those items should only become more valuable and more rare with time. But will they?

Like some have said in the comments already, people buy old games or current games to play them, then to have them around to play again in the future. If there is a collectibility to them, then that's cool, makes the physical copy more special, I guess. I buy a lot of older games, like Gamecube games, because I want to play them. Some of them are hard to find and expensive, while others are like 3 bucks used on eBay. With the Wii U, Devil's Third can cost 300 dollars and it's no sweat off my back. Why? Digital.

Let me just say this. I love the digital age we are moving into. I hope Nintendo figures out a simple way to get ALL of their games available on virtual console some day, then the days of eBay are over for me. And honestly, they already kind of are. Because even if the game isn't on Virtual Console now, I'll just assume it will jump on it later.

I think it's going to be hard on collector's moving forward. First off, I think that many people who are buying up these rare Wii U games are going to have a hard time selling them. The market for those willing to buy the physical copy is going to shrink as soon as digital starts taking the vast majority of the way games are sold.

I also may disagree with myself, specifically in regards to Nintendo. Nintendo items are always going to have a high chance of becoming a collectible, and I think gamers for many years to come, even the next generation of gamers, will somehow come to the decision that they too want a large, physical collection of as many Nintendo games as possible. To do that, they will need to search out those rare Wii U copies of Lego Undercover, Bayo, Pikmin, 2k, Devil's Third, etc...

I guess there were a lot more GS staff that voted for the official game of the year, cause there's only 1 here that had The Witcher 3 as their top pick.

Reviewer's criticism felt forced here, either that or he was having trouble articulating his gripes. Not to say he didn't feel the game was a 7 out of 10, but rephrasing "the novelty wore off after 10 hours" over and over doesn't suffice for productive criticism. Overall, felt like a hipster reviewed this game. I give this review a 5 out of 10.
