Hi there,
I know I have already asked in this in the PC section of the GameSpot Forum and got a suggestion from a forum user but I was wondering whether anyone could help me to resolve this issue, basically I'm trying to get Doom Collector's Edition to work in Windows 8.1 Pro and when I launch Doom95 it comes up with the following message "The ordinal 1 could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\DOOM Collector's Edition\Doom2\doomlnch.dll." followed by "Unable to initialize 'doomlnch.dll'." after clicking OK to message and terminates after clicking OK again, I've had success with getting it to work with Operating Systems ranging from Windows 95 to Windows 7 in the past but when getting it to work in Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 I can't get it to launch nor can I find any suggestions on the Internet to resolve this issue. Your help would be much appreciated.
Kind regards,
RocknRollTim
P.S. I was advised by a user off the Microsoft Community forum to contact this page for additional support.
Update
Eliminated the first message when running program as Administrator and compatibility mode for Windows 95, 98 and Me but the second message still appears though, I'll try replacing doomlnch.dll to see if that works before purchasing the original versions of Doom in order to get them to work inside of Dosbox.
Also replacing doomlnch.dll didn't make any difference to eliminate the second message in Windows 8.1 and Window 10. Doom Collector's Edition launches without the issues in Windows 8 that Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 encounter as mentioned previously, either I rollback to Windows 8, purchase original versions of Doom, use an emulator that supports Doom Collector's Edition, purchase steam engine version of Doom or modify doomlnch.dll file for Windows 8.1, for Windows 10 I need to discover another method and will keep experimenting.
