Imagine judging and awarding videogame storytelling not by how well it uses strengths of the medium, but by how well it replicates another, older medium.

It's like if Oscars were given out to movies that told their story through a text crawl.

I rated it 5/10 the year it came out.

For context, it released AFTER Half-Life 2, Chronicles of Riddick and Far Cry 1.

Everything about it was shite besides the tech, and even that got outdone by its contemporaries some months before. And the horror, that was supposed to be the prime focus of the entire game boiled down to "put player in pitch black area -> spawn enemies (preferably behind player)". The gunplay was unforgivably putrid and sound design was cheap.

Some say that even watching paint dry is fun with friends. Well, Doom 3 is such hopeless crap, even a 2-player coop (LMS Mod on PC, works near-flawlessly) doesn't make it any fun.

The only thing I liked about it is ID following the trend they set in Quake series of doing away with the use button and replacing it with diegetic touchscreens, which were later adopted by criminally few games such as Prey (2016) and Sin Episodes.

With a modern jaded eye, I rate it I-wouldn't-wipe-my-ass-with-it/10.
