I've got both a PS3 and a 360 and honestly I love them both, I'd recommend getting them. Having both of the big consoles means you don't have to worry about petty fanboys or exclusives. You can just play games and not worry about the console.

I would recommend the 360 version, simply because Valve was more involved with that version. Not to mention, the achievements on the 360 version are really creative and you'll have a good amount of fun trying to get 'em.

The only factor in price is length and brand name. Just get the cheapest one you can find that's long enough for you and you're good to go.QualityJeverage

Forgot to add, don't worry about all these expensive cables that claim to offer superior quality because of "gold connectors" or some other magical breakthrough they claim to have. These things are myths, all of the cables are going to be the same quality so just grab what you need.

When Blu-Ray won. I'd wanted one for a while but was holding out for something big to push me, and Blu-Ray's dominance was it.

I still have my 360 though, and still play it regularly. No fanboyism here. I play games, not consoles.

I own both systems and Halo 3 says on the back of the box that it supports HDTV 720p/1080i/1080p. BUT, here's the good part. Bungie actually admitted that it truly runs on 480p! That explains all the jaggies, fuzziness, and blurrs. It just didnt look next-gen. So dont believe what the case says. It's probably not true.Elann2008

Halo 3 runs at 640p, not 480p. Bungie explained as having something to do with lighting or maintaining a quality framerate. I should point out that that's not something that's only been done by Bungie. CoD4 is another game that doesn't run in 720p, the decision was made (On both 360 and PS3) to lower the resolution slightly so as to maintain the constant framerate of 60fps. It's definitely not some problem with the 360, devs on both platforms do it.

--

Anyway, you'd be hard-pressed to find a game that truly runs in 1080p on either the 360 OR the PS3, so please stop using it as some tool to bash the 360, neither console does it. What the 360 does is upscale games displayed in 720p to 1080p, it doesn't look as good as a true 1080p game would, but it certainly looks better on a big 50" display than a 720p image would.

I'm not entirely sure how the PS3 handles it since I've only had it for a week compared to nearly 2 years with my 360, but I would assume that it tackles the problem similarly, feel free to correct me though.

So then the vast improvement I see when I switch from 720p to 1080i is just me hallucinating?

Just bought a PS3 last weekend and I've been loving it so far, one big issue though is that most games refuse to run at 1080i.

My TV supports 720p, 1080i, and 1080p (Though 1080p is of questionable quality on this set.). Of those resolutions, games look by far their best on 1080i, so naturally I have my PS3 set to display at that resolution.

On the XMB and some games (Tekken 5 for example), it displays perfectly fine at 1080i and looks very sharp. In nearly every other game though, it reverts back to 720p with significantly more jaggies.

Is there a way to "convince" the rest of these games to display at 1080i rather than 720p? The PS3 settings don't seem to have any effect, nor do those on my TV.

If it helps, I'm on a 26" LCD, connecting through HDMI.

On my account, I have three ToS violations listed. One of them is for a stupid post I made a while ago and I take responsibility for that one, the other two however are not my doing.

The other two offenses I have listed are for "Off-Topic Posting" and "Illegal Activities".

Take the Illegal Activities report for example. Another user had made a post talking about how he planned to pirate a game and how he did it all the time. I used the Quote function to quote his post, and then wrote my own anti-piracy post underneath. Unfortunately it seems that the moderator misread the quote as being my own writing, and marked me off for illegal activities!

The same goes for the Off-Topic violation. A user made a post that was completely irrelevant, and I quoted it and pointed out it's irrelevance. Again, the quote was misread.

I'm not angry, but might I ask that moderators take a closer look at posts to make sure that they are reporting the right people?

That's great news for everyone. Especially those who DO have monster rigs, since it means the game will run EXTRA well.
