@MigGui: I just see it as a strong sign that Game Pass Console is either going away soon, so there will only be Game Pass Ultimate, or that Game Pass Console, and probably Ultimate as well, are about to get another price hike.

@Barighm: Those are spinoffs, not mainline games. Nobody is worried about Theatrythm turning all future Final Fantasy games into rhythm games. It just sucks that what used to be a great JRPG series has turned into a mediocre action rpg franchise.

@Barighm: I'm not saying that ditching the rpg elements will automatically make the game great or anything, but it makes it a lot easier for that to happen. Grinding for levels in an action game just isn't fun. If they would make a tight 20 hour experience with levels that have set pieces and fixed encounters, with set player abilities, it's a whole lot easier to ensure that every encounter is going to be challenging, but beatable.

@sakaixx: I think they should ditch the RPG mechanics, personally. Lose the party, don't have any exp, and lose the NPCs. Just make a straight up action game without all of that bloated crap weighing it down.

@sakaixx: They struggled to reinvent turn-based systems because that's kind of what Final Fantasy has always been. It's weird that they want it to be something else, rather than simply making a new IP.

It feels like if Nintendo decided to make the next 3D Mario game a movie-game with platforming mechanics from Uncharted. It's possible to make that a good game, and I personally like the Uncharted games, but I don't really have an interest in playing a Mario game that doesn't have actual platforming mechanics.

I try to keep an open mind about stuff like this, but I really would like to play a modern Final Fantasy game that is fully turn-based. At least there is still Dragon Quest.

Oh, and LOL at an option to make turn the action game into a simple, 1 button combo action game as some sort of consolation for people who want a turn-based game. Turn-based games tend to be a lot harder than action games.

Maybe this one will finally ditch most of the rpg elements and at least be a solid action game.

The original Vice City released in 2002 and was set in 1986. It was presented as a sort of fun time capsule, 16 years in the past. If the next Vice City were to take place in 2013, the year that GTA 5 was released, it would take place 12 years in the past. Seems crazy.
