Gaming had been a member of the family since my older brothers NES, Mario Bros / Duckhunt cartridge, offroad, paperboy all the good stuff. But it didn't truely start for me until Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the 3 games in 1 (Golden Axe 2, Revenge of Shinobi and Streets of Rage 1) on the Megadrive. The console that cemented my future. The unforgiving games that make everything else these days seem like a walk in the park. There were no tutorial levels and every single thing on the screen was out to kick your arse, you felt pride in finishing the level after that one constant perilous jump or bad goomba / badnik dropping from the sky. It was an unforgiving fun that you knew you couldn't avoid but learnt from your mistake. I love games now, but sometimes you just want something thats simple, fun and doesn't take 4 hours of back story and controller set up to draw you in. Sonic, Mario, Duke, Crash, Spyro, Sparks, SEGA, Nintendo - why hath thou forsaken us?
