When it comes to retro games, KONAMI all the way.

the old KONAMI is gone, dead and buried though, while CAPCOM are still good when its actually CAPCOM and don't outsource their games. In this aspect KONAMI doesn't even have a choice but to outsource most their franchises since their teams just don't exist anymore.

So besides paying for the game, you have to pay for the storage medium and the game. Oh and of course for fast internet too, because you'll need it to download all those GBs, hopefully without errors.

It just doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Furthermore, game companies are selling their digital copies for the same price than physical ones. Which is just a huge scam if you ask me.

Back then there use to be automated floppy disk vending machines, where you could purchase games in generic floppy disks and save on some money.

Now you don't even get generic DVDs,BDs or whatever, don't save on anything, or get anything extra, but you still have to pay full price.

[QUOTE="Panzer_Zwei"]

The Master System was a great system considering it had close to no third party support at all, so all games were published and reprogrammed by SEGA.

Jakandsigz

Not so sure, i would say a bit over a third of the library was 3rd-party. It got some TP that the other two systems never got as well.

Which third party games?

In Japan there are 0 games that weren't published by SEGA period. And I would assume it was around the same in the US.

And like I said, most non-SEGA IPs that appeared on the system were reprogrammed by SEGA and not by their parent company.

By this I mean that not because there's DOUBLE DRAGON, YS, PUZZLE BOBBLE, RYGAR etc. on the Master System it means that TECHNOS, FALCOM, TAITO and TECMO supported the system. SEGA reprogrammed all of those games for their system since the parent companies couldn't do it themselves as they had a a deal with Nintendo.

CLIMAX is the company that made the game. Most notably they made SHINING FORCE, SHINING IN THE DARKNESS and LANDSTALKER on the MegaDrive. Then some of the staff left and made ALUNDRA on the PlayStation.

In Japan the game is called CLIMAX LANDERS, since some of the characters come from other CLIMAX games like LANDSTALKER and LADY STALKER.

It's definitely more enjoyable if you're a fan of CLIMAX.

I wouldn't really say within the same time-period. The FC came out in 1983 and the PCE in 1987.

By 1987 the FC boom was on its last legs and the scene really changed in those 4 years.

Most every school kid was playing video games by then. Whilst before it was mostly high schoolers and young adults that went to the arcades and had PCs.

What you're saying is that the system had potential. However I don't see how the system was actually important for gaming, given how no software maker of importance, nor the general gaming audience showed much interest for the system.
