There are some exceptions that had really fun combat and controlled well. Some of the superhero games and some of Sony's open world games come to mind.

Horizon Forbidden West will have the fun combat and great controls for sure. Then you'll get everything else on top of that - exploration , discovery , traversal , stealth , sidequests, side content , hunting , characters/story/lore , graphics , art direction , sound design , music , destruction , animations , A.I. , weather , physics , effects , etc.

Fans of great playing open world games aren't going to want to miss out on that one! It's going to be fun.

I'll play both , but Horizon Forbidden West for me. The first game was in my top 5 favorites of last generation. Fighting the machines was so cool and so much fun. Great gameplay , visuals , premise , setting , lore , art direction , sound design , etc. I liked some of the character too , Aloy , Rost , Teersa , Sylens , Nil , etc.It also helps that it is more story/character based and I don't want much spoiled. I'll be off the internet as much as I can for a few weeks.

With Forbidden West, Guerrilla seems to have taken a good amount of criticisms of Zero Dawn to heart , and are pushing themselves to make the formula even better.

  • Much improved human enemy AI , hit detection/hit reactions , melee , and some ride/control machines
  • Much improved character models , motion capture , facial animations
  • More traversal/exploration options - glider , grapple hook , underwater , more climable/vaultable things , more ridable machines
  • More involved sidequests and more time spent with side characters , and better rewards
  • More skill trees and more skills. Some of the skills can be leveled up. Each skill tree has a battle surge (special ability) too. Leveling of weapons and armour. Bigger weapon wheel too.
  • Improved settlements

It's pretty rare for me to get this excited about a game. I expect a fantastic game.

Elden Ring can wait a little.

God of War games - I , II , etc. These will still be really good many years from now. I'm still seeing playthroughs that are really surprising people that are new to the old series. Very fun , entertaining, and memorable. God of War 2018 has inspired people to go back.

God of War mania is about to go into overdrive in 2022.

  • God of War PC
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • People playing some of the old games for the first time

Uncharted Drake's Fortune is a good pick. Plays well. Great characters. Fun.

Alan Wake Remastered , I guess. I had a progression bug where I had to restart a lengthy chapter all over again. On top of that , the game feels dated in many aspects , more than I expected. And the dodge mechanic is terrible. Just turrible.

Hopefully as I keep playing , there are no more bugs and the mechanical/design frustrations are tolerable enough to get me through the game.

Seems unlikely.

Play$tation is going to have people playing , spending , and talking for sure. God of War franchise mania is going to run wild all year long on multiple systems , and Horizon FW is going to impress and be big and help push Horizon Zero Dawn plays on PS5/PS4/PC. Horizon and God of War living together. Mass hysteria.

  • God of War - PC
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Gran Turismo 7
  • MLB The Show 22
  • Uncharted Legacy of Thieves Collection - PS5/PC
  • Spartacus
  • Timed multiplats
  • God of War Ragnarok

Some other things that might release in 2022 (or early 2023) that will be anticipated -

  • Final Fantasy XVI
  • PSVR 2
  • More Play$tation games on PC
  • The Last of Us multiplayer

And Play$tation's got all of those great PS4/PS5 titles pushing from behind for new consumers that others are recommending to them. PlayStation has a good advantage there imo.

They will likely also announce more 1st party titles and 3rd party deals as usual, and could show Spider-Man 2 late next year. I heard Spider-Man is a pretty big deal!

Horizon Forbidden West is going to be fantastic. Spider-Man 2 as well. Those are going to be slam dunks for Sony. A make-believe narrative isn't going to help change the inevitable reality. I think Sony will compete well and do great as usual.

Released quality games -

  • Spider-Man Miles Morales
  • Demon's Souls
  • Sackboy A Big Adventure
  • Astro's Playroom
  • Returnal
  • Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart

Roadmap part 1 -

  • Horizon Forbidden West - (coming very soon!)
  • Gran Turismo 7 - (coming very soon!)
  • God of War Ragnarok
  • The Last of Us standalone multiplayer
  • The Last of Us Remake
  • Spider-Man 2
  • Wolverine

Roadmap part 2 -

  • Team Asobi
  • Firesprite
  • Pixelopus
  • London Studio
  • Bluepoint
  • Housemarque
  • Media Molecule
  • Bend Studio
  • Sucker Punch
  • Guerrilla Games - (game 2)
  • Santa Monica - (game 2)
  • Naughty Dog - (game 3)
  • Insomniac Games - (game 5) - Ratchet & Clank team

1st party Parterships -

  • Firewalk
  • Deviation
  • Haven

PSVR 2 is coming too.

And think about all of the Sony Remasters/Director's Cuts and backwards compatibility content for all of the new customers that came in and are going to keep coming in. Spider-Man , Horizon Zero Dawn , God of War series , The Last of Us series , Uncharted series , Bloodborne , Death Stranding , Ghost of Tsushima , etc.

I liked the 1st game enough , but that was a disappointing showing.

Did they show Redfall? I don't remember seeing it. Isn't that supposed to release summer 2022?

What I played -

  1. God of War - Top Game of last gen
  2. The Last of Us Part II - 2nd best game of last gen
  3. Sekiro - Really great action game - top 15 game of last gen
  4. The Witcher 3 - Good action adventure/light arpg - Worth playing , but highly overrated by critics/fans

I played Overwatch pre-release and had fun with it for what it was , but that was enough for me. Bloodborne is my #3 game of last gen if you were wondering.

I don't own either console yet , but I would give the edge to PlayStation by looking at the offerings -

  • Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
  • Returnal
  • Iki Island expansion
  • Guilty Gear Strive
  • Deathloop
  • Kena Bridge of Spirits
  • etc.

vs

  • Forza Horizon 5
  • Halo Infinite
  • Flight Simulator, lol
  • etc.
