Sorry, I was thinking about Sonic 3 & Knuckles. That game's been on my mind for speedruns and challenges lately. But anyways, there was a Sonic Cripple Challenge for the Death Egg boss in Sonic 3 that whoisthisgit did.

No; I but I think he did the Sonic Cripple Challenge in Emerald Hill's boss. Tails basically carried Sonic over Eggman's drill car until it passed and then Tails attacked the drill car.
There's a user on YouTube called "whoisthisgit". He used to make videos of challenges regarding the old Sonic Genesis games and Sonic CD.
Some examples are the "Sonic Cripple" Challenge (in which Tails must carry Sonic throughout the whole level without Sonic dying), the "Blue Hedgehogs Can't Jump" and the "Red Echidnas Can't Jump" Challenges (in which the player cannot jump and must make it to the goal), and several others.
I don't think he does them anymore; however the challenge videos he used to make can draw some inspiration if any of you are planning to do the same thing.

I see... I'm thinking about redoing the City Escape speedrun - I might scrap that speedrun altogether; there's a record under 2 minutes on YouTube... my record's 2:16. However, I've done a Green Hill Zone speedrun (the 3D version on SA2:B), but it doesn't even compare to DarkspinesSonic's record of 25.92 seconds.
On the flip side - just for the fun of it - I've recorded most of the diolague heard during the FinalHazard Battle on SA2:B; I'll be uploading that one soon.
I've already got footage of a speedrun of City Escape and I was able to get to the very top of the GUN Rocket in Metal Harbor on Hard Mode; I'm uploading it on YouTube soon. The latter was really hard to do... I was lucky by a couple of seconds... Has anyone gotten to the top of the GUN Rocket on Hard Mode before?

Sonic has definitely seen some better days. But maybe Sonic Team's finally getting things done right this time around. Personally I think Sonic Team needs Yuji Naka, Naoto Oshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara back; they were the core of the team! How is a series going to succeed without its good writers, superb level designers, intelligent programmers, etc.?
Just look at the Genesis Sonic games. Those games were programmed by Yasuhara and Naka, who designed the levels. Yasuhara eventually departed from the Sonic series in 2002. Compare the games Yasuhara and Naka programmed to the more recent 2D Sonic games like Sonic the Hedgehog 4, made in 2010. The Genesis Sonic games were praised for their level design. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was criticized for its cheap deaths and awkward physics.
Mix up some bad programming with a lame story and unpolished gameplay and you'll get another rushed, glitchy Sonic '06. We don't want that, now do we? But anyways, I think Sonic's going to be alright as long as they have a good concept and a good team willing to make a good Sonic game.
