Mirror's Edge comes to mind. The fact that they took a "platformer game" and purposely made it from a first person perspective was the main innovation with that game.
It's not like third person view is particular "innovative" either. It's an even older way of presenting the game world to players.
But Gamespot...really. Article about this is published this fast meanwhile Elite Dangerous: Horizons was actually RELEASED yesterday allowing you to do this already...and nothing written about it. Come on!
@EcksTheory: Best game I've ever played within the genre and among my top 5 overall. I also got lifetime expansions during the Kickstarter so it's probably the best value game I've ever bought too.
