Surprised Gamespot ran this as a news story. A quick read of what the "hacker" posted would have shown you that it's fake. The fact that he said Xbox live was new in 2009, the fact that the link he posted was to a fake site and just how similar all those usernames/passwords are.
Do some simple research before spreading fear like this.
Good to see, hopefully this means the press can stop using Games as a scapegoat for kids doing stupid stuff. The ratings are there for a reason and if they're ignored then the games shouldn't be the ones taking the brunt of the complaints. That belongs to the parents who let their kids play things they shouldn't be.
@RAHBRT You don't need a smartphone to use the mobile authenticator, any phone with Java is good enough and what I used for a year or so before getting my current phone.
@Ayfiaru If there is even a single piece of doubt in their minds then releasing a statement saying that it is NOT a fault on their end is the worst thing they could possibly do. While they've not quite done that yet, they're very close. They have significant logs of pretty much everything from the game and account so you'd think they'd have seen something by now.
It's entirely possible something is up, but if that was the case they wouldn't have made this statement and said they're still looking into it.
