I'm glad GS is finally redeeming themselves by giving this game a 9.0, rather than a shameful, shameful 8.8

This looks like the sort of game that would "filet mignon" on the app store.

... but on the Wii U it's a tad short and simple .... like paying 40 dollars for simply a "nice" meal.

It's also a bit overshadowed by SSB4 and of course 3D World. I'm in no personal hurry but I'll need to get it eventually!

Wonder if they took the selfie mode idea from last fall's Zelda Wind Waker remaster.

It's a game with super broad appeal. It won't single handedly make the Wii U a success but with Kart being Nintys most successful franchise after Pokemon, and the fact that the game is in brilliant HD, there'll certainly be a sales boost

8 or 9; tomato / tom-ah-to. The content of Tom's review is very praising. There's no use comparing sliding scales.

Personally, though, I like the roster. Koopalings seem to be excellent additions.

Sure Pink Gold Peach and Baby Rosalina should have been swapped for interesting side characters (Wart and E. Gadd = drool). But I like that it's very series staple focused and not as grab-bag-ey as MK7s roster.

Excellent. While I personally have enjoyed recent Zeldas (DS ones aside), you can't argue that the recent titles have been alienating. That each new entry has been met with less and less hype. I found Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword personally thrilling yet there really are lots of "buts" that come up when I start recommending these games to friends. Great opinion piece, thanks Tom.

It has an amazing screen and great graphical capabilities.

If they just made a controller attachment with, you know, buttons then maybe it would actually be able to provide high quality gaming experiences like those found on the Vita and 3DS

Spot on from a single player perspective. When playing alone I find myself completely avoiding the "Murfy" stages. Which is unfortunate, because some of them are really great.

However, the co-op element just really works for me. I enjoy the dependency between person A on the TV and person B on the gamepad . There's also a good amount of variety to what Mufy can do to help the player on the screen.

Tom makes a decent point -- playing Murfy levels in single player does dampen the action a bit. Were the game single player only I could see how this would detract from the score.

BUT the whole point of the mechanic is for asymmetrical multiplayer! The intent is that you play these portions with a friend. I've done this and it's great fun. It's true co-op in a plat former. It's the best use of the gamepad this side of Nintendoland.

Those who play single player on the PS3 will probably get the better experience, but those who own a Wii U or Vita (and have a friend to play with) can enjoy the game in the way it was designed to be enjoyed before the delay.
