@beckerjr: Well yeah, that's what they did this gen. And both companies set themselves a target of around 250 watt TDP this gen. But if they do a PS3 type console again, they can take a lot of the costs and release a 400 - 500 watt beast. Especially when new chipsets are developed they can get more bang per watt.

They can keep trying to push out these upgraded consoles mid gen, but they won't sell.

The PS5 will most likely be AMD hardware and X86 architecture. So backwards compatibility will be easy. Will it be a half step? No.

It will most likely have a much better CPU, and a GPU that's at least twice the power of the one in the PS4 Pro. Putting it at least 4 times more powerful than the original PS4. And it will be marketed as a next gen console with new titles that you can't get anywhere else. Maybe some developers will be nice enough to make PS4 Pro versions early on, but that's it.

I'm hoping for a really powerful console at the start so we won't get mid gen upgrades like the Pro, which means it would have to be a 12 Teraflops beast, but I doubt that will happen.

Wow. I guess he didn't get the memo from MS. It's a mid gen upgrade, and all games will have to be made to run on both the X1 and Scorpio. If it had been a complete next gen machine, MS would have marketed it as that. It will run the exact same games as on the X1, just at 4K, VR support, and some more frames.

And with absolutely no exclusives any more, I recommend getting a PC. Then you can play the few worthwhile Xbox games, and PC games, at 4K, today.

Wow, Nintendo really have'nt moved on since the 80's. They could have just used one big screen and splitted it up with software. It would have had much more potential. The dual screen idea is useless in my mind. I don't think children playing on a tablet is missing that second screen.

@PC_Otter Yeah, the CPU is old and slow. Had it been running at 3.2Ghz like it should have, developers would have had an easier time porting games to the WiiU. But at 1.2Ghz it's a big bottleneck, they should have chosen a new and better CPU.

@Wienerman- Why? Because devs don't utilize all of the RAM on PC? That's because devs has to make the game work on most PC's that are out there, and most games are initially made for the current gen consoles aswell. Which probably limits devs to using more than 2GB of system memory, and 1 - 2GB of VRAM. A console has allways utilized all it's available RAM. It will be no different with the PS4.

@dude102 @Martin_G_N According to sales figures, laptops sell more than desktop PC's. And you can get a cheap laptop that can play current gen games. If devs only made games to work on gaming rigs, the sale figures on PC would be pretty damn low.

He has a point though, since devs has to develop they're games to work on most PC's out they're, which is'nt high end gaming rigs with 4+GB VRAM. Most people game on laptops with 4 - 8GB RAM and 1GB VRAM or maybe even shared with the slow system memory. Developers will have no problem making games to utilize the 8GB GDDR5 in a closed system like the PS4. It will give us new games that will push gaming forward.

@Kryptonbornson @toffifee Most people don't build they're own PC, of course that can be cheaper than buying a finished product from HP, Dell and so on. For the average Joe though, who is not on this forum, it's usually cheaper and easier to buy a console than a PC.

@MAD_AI I think Nvidia could have gone pretty low in price, but I just don't think they wanted to prioritize consoles. And if Sony or MS used Nvidia they would have had to use a different company with the CPU since Nvidia does'nt have that. I think AMD is cheaper since they produce both the CPU and the GPU.
