Hmm...but now it seems I can't find Plasma EDTV smaller than 42 inches, and they're all widescreen. I sit very close to the TV, I'm afraid the blown up image (particularly because a lot of PS2 games don't support widescreen) is going to make it look bad.

^Not necessarily. The HDTV I had was about the same size as my old SD, and even displaying the games in 4:3 ratio, they still looked pretty bad.

To ct1615: Erm, I wasn't asking if an EDTV can handle a 480i signal as well as a 1080p TV, I was asking if it could handle it as well as an SDTV, which has a native resolution of 480i. I know 480p and 480i are different, and know what they entail, I just need to know if said TV with a native resolution of 480p (EDTV) would look the same running 480i as an SDTV. HD, while capable of up to 1080p, CAN of course display 480i content, but it looks very bad, very jaggy and pixellated. That's what I'm trying to avoid.

Well it is technically the same native resolution, the only difference is the scanning method. Will that progressive/interlace conversion be noticeable, or will it still pretty much look the same?

Well, I KNOW SD games look like crap on an HD (from experience, unfortunately), but I want to know how to they'll look on an ED (480p) TV.

To DapeyDevoid, it's good to hear SD games will look better on EDTV than HDTV, but will they look the same as SD TV, or still a little bit worse?

Seemed pretty generic to me. Just pick up a gun, shoot some enemies. It was easy (even on the higher difficulties) and boring. Even the whole "Nectar" thing didn't seem that big of a deal, it's not like Far Cry: Instincts didn't already cross that bridge years ago.

(And yeah, the voice acting was horrible, and all the lines were incredibly cheesy, in a so-bad-it's-actually-bad-way)

(I posted this elsewhere on the site and haven't had much luck in replies, I figured it couldn't hurt to post it here).

Most PS2 games run in 480i, but most HD TVs have a native resolution of 720p or higher. Because of the scaling and blah blah blah blah, the PS2 games wind up looking pretty bad (very jaggy) on an HD TV. My question is, how do they fair on an EDTV? An EDTV has a native resolution of 480p, which is technically the same as the 480i of most PS2 games, just a different scanning method. Will they look better than on an HD TV? Or will SD TVs (which DO run in 480i) still look better for PS2 games? I know some PS2 games do run in 480p, and you can buy component cables, but a lot still run in 480i, and I'd like to know how those will fair.

No offense, but just in advance, please don't try to talk me into buying an HD TV, that's not what I'm here for, I just need an answer. Any help is appreciated. I really need to know definitely is yes, 480i PS2 games will look exactly the same on a 480p EDTV, or no, they will look stretched/jaggier, not unlike playing them on an HDTV.

Yes, of course it will run well. The only difference between 480i and 480p is the number of lines visible on screen at any one point in time. The resolutions are both exactly the same; so there's no scaling involved.jt4mtb

Thanks. So definitively, speaking of PS2 games that are 480i, they will not look any worse on an EDTV (native resoultion 480p)? They'll look exactly the same as an SDTV (native resolution 480i)?

That's not really what I'm asking. I'm asking if an EDTV will run 480i games as well as an SD TV.
