I'm on chapter 10... I just avoid random fights now since a) they are tedious and repetitive, and b) they are still so freaking easy (just longer than they should be)... I just get the feeling the combat system was built without this stagger stuff in mind and they added it in later on to draw out encounters. When I saw the Team Xbox review of 5, I thought how could they be serious? But lo and behold I find myself tending to agree.
I'm yet to encounter a single boss that mad me think omfg I'm screwed (I still remember the trouble I had with Seymour on Gagazet)...not only that, since there is no fear of your opponent, there's no sense of victory. You just feel like you've completed and obligatory piece of the story and move on to the next linear corridor.
I keep playing it because there have been some incredible games in the Final Fantasy series and I owe it that much, but it'll take something special for me to think of this series in the same light again after this.
