Mirror's Edge wasn't a shooter.

But yeah, most games in the genre do little to innovate, but it's not like games have to do something completely new in order to be good.

In fact they do. A persons that discovers a country that has already been discovered is called an idiot. It applies for music, movies and books I don't see how it can't apply for videogames.

[QUOTE="savebattery"]Here's some more: -I can count on one hand the number of upcoming PC exclusives I want to purchase. -DLC is a gigantic rip off and anyone who purchases it is contributing to the downfall of games as an art form and the rise of games as a gigantic cash cow. -I boycott all forms of digital distribution. Digital distribution destroys the used game market, the import market, and the idea of a collection. Also, it limits your selection to what publishers are willing to host. If a game doesn't sell well and revenue from sales don't exceed bandwidth and hosting costs, it will simply be removed. If you didn't buy it, it's gone forever. -Wii is the most "hardcore" console out there right now. Its "hardcore" games may not get enough attention (Guilty Gear, Muramasa, Sin and Punishment, Castle of Shikigami, Little King's Story, Fire Emblem, Blastworks, etc), but that doesn't mean they're not there. Further, there's nothing remotely "hardcore" about games like Halo or GTA IV. -Both DS and PSP have better libraries than any of the three home consoles this generation. By a pretty wide margin. -The SoulCalibur series has been terrible since II, and it has been slowly declining in quality with each release since SoulCalibur for Dreamcast. -SEGA has published more great games than any other third party this generation. Note that I said published, which sometimes but doesn't always include games that they also developed.

I don't think digital distribution harms "little productions" in fact it does just the opposite, I just disagree with that I hate DLC too, still for indie developer for examples the cost of distributing a game can be far bigger than actually making it, that's when digital distribution comes to play, putting a game online costs actually nothing to indie developers since they only have variable costs, in conclusion they only use bandwitch when someone buys the game so it's a good way of getting their game easily to a lot of potential consumers. It also applies to the whole industry, what do you think is more expensive to put the game online or to manufacture and ship cds to the whole world? The portables will always have a best library than the home consoles for a single explanation, home systems are just a race of technical prowess between giants, they never care about production costs, while on the other hand portables are always years behind home systems which makes developing for them far cheaper and easier than doing it on home systems. It specially applies for Nintendo who thankfully doesn't care to make their portables supercomputers.

I can't get into "realistic" shooters. They're often not very realistic to begin with and there's something about them I just don't like. Like the other person stated I find them somewhat distasteful for some reason but I can't place my finger on it.

Alpha Protocol does choice and consequence better than any RPG before it and is worth the price of the game alone.

Two Worlds is a better RPG than Oblivion despite TW looking and sounding like garbage

I love what Bethesda did to Fallout's Gameplay...now if they could only get the dialogue/quests down and weren't afraid to really peddle the illegal drug/sex side of the previous games it would have been a better game.

I think Mass Effect 2 did the right thing. If a game has RPG aspects in it just to have RPG aspect at the cost of playability/fun...then either fix them or get rid of them. I'd rather experience a solid game and let other people argue if it's a 3rd person shooter or an RPG than play a sloppy game that is either of those genres.

I basically hate modern shooters because of their bland approach to plot, it leaves me thinking if all their players have such a pragmatic view of war

[QUOTE="Lisandro_v22"][QUOTE="Greyfeld"]Demon's Souls is a JRPG. Sorry, but it is. Zelda is not an RPG. Final Fantasy 12 is the worst game in the series. Final Fantasy X-2 is a great game. Dragon Quest is a horrible franchise with frustrating, archaic game mechanics. It should have died years ago, yet Japan seems to inexplicably thrive on each installment. Bioware makes good games, but they haven't had a fresh and innovative story structure since Baldur's Gate. All the Elder Scrolls games are bad. Yes, all of them. Open world + no plot direction = jumbled mess.Greyfeld
Obviously Demon's Souls is a JRPG, I mean is an RPG from Japan. And everyone knows Zelda is an adventure game in the most pure sense.

You'd be surprised how many people argue the opposite. I've seen threads get derailed by people trying to argue that Demon's Souls is a WRPG, despite being made in Japan.

I suppose there can be people like that, but how can DS be a western RPG if it's a good game? nah I'm joking but anyway there are different traits from each of them but that doesn't mean they are rules. I think in the end you just have to see where they have been made I mean J stands for Japan. Still DS is a fairly obvious japanese production. If it was either first person, or point and click or had a branching story or attacks had to be paced or it was inspired on Tolkien I would think twice about it but it's clearly japanese,

Oh those?? I found them... hah Nope I mean just say that there is no point of selling them because you can't get much money from them and that you just like keeping them.

I doubt it, a big reason Nintendo's portables have all great libraries is that they always kept development costs very low. I seriously hope more consoles did that so that developers focus more on quality than on graphics. It's good to upgrade a system but when you go too far you end up with a poor library.

I have quite a lot, though I think each is unpopular for a different type of people:

- With the exception of: Planescape Torment, Bioshock and maybe two other titles every well rated and state of the art western RPGs has as much artistic deepness as a pot of play doh.

- Call of Duty portraits a completely ignorant and indifferent view on war and violence. It has not even an excuse of plot which makes it a very poor shooter and a bad nourishment for anyone's mind.

- Twilight Princess is the stupid grandchild of Ocarina of Time. They recicled everything and the only slight change they did was just an excuse to not release it as a remake.

- Ninja Gaiden is the dumb copy of the DMC series. The games are terrible, while the controls are ok the level design and pacing is so bad it feels like you are playing streets of rage or something like that.

- Final Fantasy XIII is the worst Final Fantasy in the series.

What else?

mmm Kingdom Hearts invented the action role playing genre. No western reviewer had enough artistical sensitivity to appreciate the subtelties of it's story.

Final Fantasy X-2 is a very expensive poor excuse for a game, even for a spin off.

Mod Nation Racers beats Mario Kart in every possible way, I mean you can even use Mario on it and Mario Kart Wii meant the franchise is almost an abandoned project.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope is one of the worst RPG I have played in my whole life. Though I wouldn't call that an unpopular opinion.

Metal Gear 4 story is not complicated, it's simply bad and It's only worthwhile because it makes it up with a mind blowing gameplay and because the cutscenes are skippable even when they look so darn good.

My greatest fear is to lose my GBC saved games, it has already happened with my Pokemon Gold and soon will happen with my Pokemon Silver. I'm not joking I would pay 100 bucks to recharge the battery of the cartridges without taking it out.
