Hey gamespot. Member of gamespot since 2004, I just changed my username as my old one was a bit immature. Any ways, on to my question. I sold my old rig to a friend on mine (AMD 995 BE, ASUS EVO 790x mobo, ATI 5850). First time powering up we got it to POST and installed windows. While windows was updating the GPU driver it crashed and shut down. When we powered up it would no longer POST. There is no beep(s), the CPU fan spins and the green mobo light is lit up.
Ive built a few rigs in my day. Ive pretty much followed every No POST/No beep guide I can find on the interwebs with no luck. The last step I did was to take the HSF off and power up the PC with my finger on the CPU. I left my finger on it for over a min and it was dead cold. Ive googled a bit and can't find out if this means the CPU is dead or if the mobo is dead.
Mobo and CPU are out warranty (18 months old). Do you guys think its the mobo or CPU. Im going to be good friend and replace the part for him, just needed to know what I should order.
Thanks in Advanced.
